“I am the Vice President of Easton Group, and Hayden Thorne's sister-in-law. I am a Thorne. You don't have the guts to take me away. I demand a phone call.”

Captain Briggs’s face darkened. Faced with Sienna’s unreasonable demands, he spoke with righteous authority.

“I don't care who you are. Mrs. Thorne's safety was threatened, and we are arresting you according to the law. If you have any objections, tell it to the judge.”

Sienna finally realized she was in serious trouble. She hadn't expected this man to be so unyielding, strictly enforcing the law even when she invoked the Thorne family name.

“I need to make a call.”

Captain Briggs looked at her coldly.

Outside Zoe's office, the Zenith employees didn't know exactly what had happened, but seeing the police meant things had escalated.

Sienna pulled out her phone and called Hayden directly. He picked up almost instantly. The moment his voice came through the line, her eyes welled up with red-hot tears.

“Hayden, I’m in trouble again. I came to Zenith to talk to Zoe, and she framed me. She slapped herself and called the cops, claiming I assaulted her. Now they want to take me away. She even spouted some nonsense to the police about me attacking a Military Spouse.”

A bizarre silence fell over the line. Sienna didn't get the comforting words she expected—the reassurances that she should relax and that he would handle everything. For the first time in years, Hayden reacted to her plea with extreme abnormality.

Sienna prompted softly after half a minute of silence.

Several seconds later, his deep, detached voice echoed through the speaker.

“You went to Zoe, and you slapped her?”

No matter what catastrophe struck, he had always stood behind her. She had only come to scare Zoe a little, and now she was being hauled away over Zoe's self-directed play.
