Mindful of how hurt she still was, he immediately stepped into the bathroom the second she scurried out of the room.

Half an hour later, a heavy thud echoed from inside. Hayden leaned against the freezing tiles, completely drained. Just moments ago, his mind had been entirely flooded with the vivid image of Zoe writhing beneath him in absolute bliss.

Damn it.

He slammed his fist brutally into the wall, his knuckles instantly splitting open and bleeding.

When Zoe arrived at the office, she realized she was an hour and a half late.

What surprised everyone, however, was that their fiercely punctual boss was nowhere to be seen either.

Ever since Valerie Yates had been fired, no one dared to pick fights with Zoe.

Even when Valerie walked out of the breakroom and saw her, she only threw a few passive-aggressive comments her way before retreating to her own office.

At 10:30 AM, Colin Zachs came looking for Zoe.

"Ms. Lynd, Mr. Thorne requested that you memorize the contents of this file today, without fail."

Zoe had buried herself in work the second she sat down at her desk.

She was desperately trying to avoid thinking about Hayden's merciless interrogation that morning regarding her shameful behavior the night before.

She tried to use work as a distraction.

Colin's knock on the door nearly gave her a heart attack.

"What is it this time?"

Zoe's heart skipped a beat.

Don't tell me she had done something even more humiliating than getting arrested and writing a guarantee letter.

"I'm not entirely sure. Mr. Thorne just insisted you review this thoroughly."

Zoe opened the folder with trembling hands, praying it wasn't some massive debt she had signed off on.

In a complete panic, she skimmed the contents, her eyes widening in disbelief.

The Thorne grandfather had passed away long ago, leaving Grandmother Eleanor, who was in her sixties.

Of course, aside from Hayden, there were several branch families. Though they shared the Thorne name, they were not direct descendants of the patriarch and matriarch.

As Zoe read on, she started yawning uncontrollably.

When Hayden walked past her office, he glanced inside. Zoe was already sound asleep, her head resting on her desk.

Colin's eyelid twitched nervously. Hayden narrowed his eyes, his thin lips pressing together, and walked away without saying a word.

Zoe was jolted awake by her cell phone ringing.

She didn't recognize the name flashing on the screen. She rarely used English names for her contacts, yet there it was, clearly spelling out "CHERRY."

Who was that?

"Hello?"

"Ms. Lynd, we haven't heard from you in ten days. The latest transfer of thirty million dollars has been wired to the account you provided. Since we never received a confirmation receipt from you, I'm calling to verify."
