Mr. Kendall Sr. gripped Sylvia's hand tightly as she fretted with anxiety.

Little Ian hadn't even been with the Kendall family for a week, and now he was being taken away. Sylvia's heart ached at the thought.

Zoe looked up at Hayden and let out a soft scoff.

"You're overthinking this, Hayden. The child isn't yours."

Hayden went rigid. The sunlight streaming through the window cast sharp, harsh shadows across his sculpted jawline.

Zoe gently patted little Ian, her expression dripping with endless mockery.

Hayden wasn't about to believe her just because she said so.

"If my math is right, you got pregnant the last time we were together."

Mr. Kendall Sr., Sylvia, and Justice Jordan were all standing right there in the room.

Hayden was completely shameless, but Zoe felt her cheeks burn with embarrassment.

"Is this how you raised your son, Mr. Kendall? To seduce a military spouse?"

Hayden's ruthless accusation made Zoe grip the bedsheets in frustration.

That was completely crossing the line.

Hayden's expression visibly darkened.

Hearing Zoe's fierce retort, Sylvia let out a massive sigh of relief.

It seemed that no matter how powerful Hayden was, he still lost his footing when facing Zoe.

But for the sake of his son, Hayden refused to back down.

"Zoe, do you really think you have the power to stop me?"

Leading by reason wasn't in Hayden's vocabulary. Zoe smirked; she was no longer the easily manipulated pushover he remembered.

"Ian is already legally registered under the Kendall family. I'm his mother, and I consented to it. Commander Thorne, what proof do you have that he belongs to you?"

Hayden scoffed. "A paternity test."

Zoe found that hilarious. "I refuse. As Ian's mother, it is illegal for you to run a paternity test without my permission. Commander Thorne, breaking the law while wearing that uniform? I'm curious to see how Command HQ will deal with you."
