I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 53

Zoe sat back down across from Cherry.

Without much hope, Cherry pulled out the electronic receipts from over the years and slid the tablet toward her.

"Ms. Lynd, it's all here."

Zoe compared the records against Cherry's spreadsheets line by line.

As her private wealth manager, Cherry oversaw an art gallery, two real estate firms, and a financial company under Zoe's name.

According to the data, the combined market value of these three companies and the gallery currently sat at three hundred million dollars.

And the total amount she had transferred to Sienna Winters over the past five years was...

"Four billion dollars?"

Zoe nearly flipped the table.

Her hands were shaking.

Cherry crossed her arms, watching her coldly.

"Ms. Lynd, if I hadn't pushed you to keep expanding, and you hadn't reinvested half your initial gallery profits into the real estate and financial firms, Ms. Winters's account would be sitting at eight billion right now, and your only asset would be a twenty-million-dollar gallery."

Zoe's teeth chattered. She was shaking with sheer rage.

"Who the hell authorized this?"

Why? Why did all her hard-earned money go to Sienna?

Fighting the urge to walk out, Cherry massaged her temples.

"You did."

"W-Why?"

Why on earth would she give Sienna that kind of cash? Had she committed murder and Sienna caught it on tape?

Cherry loathed having to recount the pathetic, crying sessions they used to have, but she had no choice.

"I believe it was for your husband. As for his name, I won't say it aloud, but you know who he is."

Of course Cherry knew. Others might not believe that Zoe had married Hayden Thorne, the primary heir of the Thorne family in New York, but Cherry did.

Only a man of that caliber could turn a woman with such brilliant business sense into an absolute fool for love.

Zoe raised her hand and slapped her own cheek hard. Cherry immediately went on high alert.

She tapped 911 onto her phone screen, ready to call the police at a moment's notice.

"Can I get that four billion back?"

"..."

Cherry shook her head. "Impossible. I'm not a lawyer, and you made the transfers willingly. Unless..."

Zoe grabbed her hands frantically. "Unless what?"

She had to get it back. That four billion had to come back to her.

Why should Hayden make her give four billion to Sienna?

She drifted back to the office like a ghost.

It wasn't until her phone rang that she snapped out of it. She heard Hunter Keating's voice on the line.

"Zoe, it's you, isn't it?"

Tears nearly welled up in her eyes.

But given her current situation, using her old tone with him didn't feel appropriate anymore.

She drew a breath, forcing her emotions down.

"Hunter. It's been a long time."

Hunter was clearly the more emotional one. He fell silent for a long moment before speaking again.

"Have you been doing well these past few years?"

It was just a polite greeting, but she didn't know how to answer this question.

Good or bad, she truly had no idea.

Because her memory was entirely blank.

"Yeah... I'm good."

That was all she managed to say.

Hunter paused. "I'm heading to Thorne Manor later. Will you be there?"
