When their family of three stepped out of the car, Hayden was carrying Lily in one arm and holding Zoe's hand with his free one. The estate staff stared in shock.
Was that the eldest young master and his wife?
Were their eyes playing tricks on them? He was actually holding the little miss and holding hands with Mrs. Thorne?
Trailing right behind them were Hunter and his girlfriend.
The two groups walked through the grand doors moments apart.
Sylvia Thorne's eyes locked onto Hayden and Zoe's intertwined fingers. Her elegant, aristocratic face shifted from surprise to visible displeasure.
But before she could say a word, Hayden finally released Zoe's hand. Sylvia didn't even spare a glance at her daughter-in-law or granddaughter.
"You didn't go pick up Sienna and Holden?"
Hayden's handsome face went blank for a second.
When Colin told him Zoe had left, he had driven straight after her cab, completely forgetting his other obligation.
Sylvia didn't sound reprimanding, just mildly reminding him.
"They're still waiting at the house for you."
Hayden frowned, a trace of annoyance in his voice.
"Why didn't you have your driver bring them when you came?"
Sylvia paused, shooting a glare of sheer disbelief at Zoe and Lily.
"You've picked them up yourself for years. It's not like Zoe is crippled or doesn't know the way. Can't she use a ride-hailing app?"
Hayden didn't argue with his mother. He nodded.
"I'll go right now."
Hunter guided his girlfriend over to greet Grandmother Thorne. Seeing the couple, Sylvia's face instantly lit up with a welcoming smile.
Hayden shot an uneasy glance at Hunter and Zoe, who was busy playing with her daughter.
Without hesitation, he pulled out his phone and called Colin.
"Head over to my mother's place and pick up Sienna and the boy."
Colin, who had been about to drive back to the office, froze.
He had to go pick up Sienna and that little demon, Holden?
Colin maintained his professional, plastered-on smile.
His job description didn't include justifying his boss's whereabouts to this woman.
Sienna didn't ask directly, but her expression made it clear she expected an answer to her son's question.
"I really couldn't say. It's getting late, Ms. Winters. We shouldn't keep the old madam waiting. Master Hunter has already arrived."
The underlying message was clear: she was the only one missing.
Sienna glared daggers at him before forcing a smile.
"True. Grandmother Thorne hates waiting."
Suppressing her irritation, she climbed into the car.
As soon as Colin started the engine, the stereo automatically resumed playing upbeat children's music.
Sienna frowned, and Holden threw a fit.
"What is this noise? It's awful! Turn it off, I don't want to hear it!"
