Sylvia scoffed coldly, "You committed such a massive crime, and you think you can still work for the Kendall family? Do you think that's even remotely possible?" Julie and Cora were worlds apart.
You really couldn't judge others by your own standards.
In all the years Cora had served the Kendall family, she had never once seen this virtuous, kind-hearted lady lose her temper or even frown at anyone.
This was the most furious Sylvia had ever been. Once she dropped her friendly facade, the consequences were severe.
"Cora, please beg for me! Besides, you already called the cops, and the kid is perfectly fine. Nothing happened! The million I asked for as an advance was all taken by Frank. I didn't spend a single cent! It's partly the madam's fault too—if she had just given me a ten-year advance like I asked, I wouldn't have had to take the kid."
Smack—
Cora slapped Julie across the face again, grinding her teeth in absolute fury. "Not only did you steal the young master, you burned down the master's century-old estate! Dying ten thousand times wouldn't be enough to pay for your sins, and you're still obsessing over your salary? You actually had the nerve to demand ten years' worth?"
Cora had worked for the Kendalls her entire life and had never tried to pull a stunt like this.
Forget asking for an advance—when the Kendalls hired her, she never even negotiated her salary. Whatever the master and madam offered, she accepted gracefully. This Julie was utterly despicable.
No, she deserved the absolute worst.
"Cora, the Kendalls are so rich! If one house is gone, they have plenty of others. What's the big deal? Madam, I'm just being honest—you rich folks are way too stingy. My husband said you people don't even blink at tens of billions. What's a few million to you? For the past six months, I took care of the young master without slacking off for a single day.
I even saved my own baby's milk to feed him! Can't you just let this slide for the sake of me practically being his half-mother?"
At that, everyone watched in shock as the famously even-tempered Sylvia raised her hand and delivered a resounding slap to Julie's face. And then another. She struck left and right, showing zero mercy.
"Where did a piece of trash like you come from to speak to me like that? You dare call yourself my grandson's mother? You aren't even fit to carry his shoes! Bring the police in from outside. The evidence is solid. Whatever the sentence is, make sure she gets the maximum penalty. Make it severe."
Only with her son safely against her chest did she dare to let out a breath.
She had almost been crushed by despair just hours ago.
Hayden ordered coldly, "Take her away."
Julie tried to keep shouting curses, but Cora yanked off her own sock and shoved it directly into Julie's mouth.
She then turned to Sylvia, her face etched with profound regret. "Madam, it's my own blindness that brought harm to the young master and the Kendall family. I will resign immediately. I am willing to empty all my life savings to compensate for the sins Julie has committed. I know it's a meager amount, but I will do everything I can to atone for her crimes."
Cora was consumed by regret. If she had known Julie was this deranged, she never would have recommended her to the Kendalls.
