"York..." Hailey murmured softly. "It looks like Gillian actually knows Mr. Linton, so it makes sense that she's helping him up."
She was thrilled that York had brought her to a business dinner today. It proved he was grooming her to be the future Mrs. Foster, keeping her involved and taking her everywhere.
Gillian completely ignored York's furious grinding teeth.
She helped Arthur back to his feet.
York's expression turned even darker and colder.
"Mr. Linton, bringing an outsider to discuss business with me today is highly inappropriate," York said, his tone freezing.
Arthur obviously knew exactly who had kicked his chair. Even with Gillian helping him up, he didn't dare make a wrong move. Covered in a cold sweat, he managed to stand. "Yes, I handled things poorly today."
He looked at Gillian. "You should leave. Don't interrupt us."
He was desperately trying to kiss up to York. If York disapproved, Arthur wouldn't dare keep Gillian around. They would likely never have dinner together again.
Her first potential investment was instantly ruined.
Gillian pressed her lips together slightly. "Sorry for the intrusion."
She turned and walked away.
-
York was trying to completely blacklist her, forcing her into a corner where she had to crawl back and beg him.
She knew what happened today was no coincidence. He was just trying to show her who held the power.
It was getting late, and this area was highly exclusive where real estate cost a premium. Most people who came here had their own private drivers, so it was incredibly rare to see taxis roaming the streets.
Unable to catch a cab, she was forced to walk along the road in her high heels.
She swayed unsteadily, feeling utterly miserable.
She hadn't worn heels in a long time; they were rubbing her feet raw and causing her immense pain.
Eventually, she took her shoes off and sat on the curb, staring at the ride-hailing app on her phone and praying someone would accept her request.
But she got zero responses.
