Gillian's eyes grew rimmed with red as she glared at York. "But my father was framed in the first place."
"Where's the proof?" York countered, meeting her gaze. "Produce the evidence, and I'll hire the best lawyers to overturn his conviction."
Gillian bit her lower lip, her slender body trembling. Tonight, he had completely shattered what was left of her heart.
Was she really going to surrender to him again? Was she going to drown in this hellish marriage for the rest of her life?
But she couldn't refuse. She had absolutely no choice.
Freedom was an ultimate luxury. York claimed he didn't have it, but with his unfathomable wealth and status, how could he possibly lack freedom?
What did freedom even mean anymore?
Her voice shook slightly. "I'll think about it."
York stood up, towering over her with a predatory gaze. "Take all the time you need, Mrs. Foster."
-
Throughout the entire night.
Gillian couldn't sleep.
She tossed and turned, his threatening words echoing endlessly in her mind.
Her current situation was abysmal.
Her father's condition was just as dire. She had zero leverage. Her only option was to submit and agree to his demands.
She had been so fiercely confident before, repeatedly demanding a divorce.
She had even been willing to walk away with nothing, only to realize how laughable her defiance had been. She simply didn't have the bargaining chips.
She deeply regretted making that public post clearing her name, which had inevitably revealed her pregnancy to him. If he hadn't known, would things have played out differently?
But if he hadn't found out, who could she possibly beg to save her father now?
Everything. Absolutely everything.
It was all because she wasn't powerful enough. She was utterly incapable of protecting her own family.
In the dead of night, she stared blankly at the pitch-black ceiling, feeling as though she were drowning in a violent sea.
The suffocating waves crashed over her from all sides, making it agonizingly difficult to even pull in a breath.
