I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 127

"If you hate me that much, what's the point of chaining me to your side? Will you only let me go if I die?"

York's dark eyes were fixed on her. The emotion swimming in their depths was unreadable; she couldn't decipher what he was thinking.

All she knew was that the entire room was thick with a volatile, freezing tension.

Ignoring the blade, York began walking toward her.

He was betting that Gillian didn't have the courage to actually end it all. He thought he had her entirely figured out. She had far too many attachments in this world to just throw her life away.

Seeing him close the distance, Gillian screamed his name. "York!"

"If you take one more step, I will sever my artery right now. No one will be able to save me by the time you get help. You know I'm a doctor. I know exactly where to cut."

York stopped dead in his tracks. Looking at the dead serious expression on the small woman's face, he suddenly felt as though an invisible net had clamped down hard over his heart, suffocating him until he could barely breathe.

He was practically shaking with rage, the rims of his dark eyes turning red. "Gillian, is staying by my side really that much torture? You'd rather end your own life than be with me?"

Gillian closed her eyes and didn't answer. Her small face was rapidly losing color, her pale lips trembling slightly.

It wasn't just reluctance.

She had fought for their marriage, fought for their relationship, for five agonizing years, and all of it had amounted to nothing.

She had been wounded until she was bleeding and broken. She was never going to throw herself at him with blind devotion ever again.

She was never going back inside that cage.

"In your eyes, my love for you was cheap. Now I'm taking it back, but you refuse to let go. You just want to keep me tied down, forcing me to linger by your side like a walking corpse."

"I will not be your puppet on a string. I have my pride, and I have my dignity."
