Just as expected, the moment Gillian said that, the man obediently loosened his grip.
Gillian looked at his miserable expression, pressing her lips together as an inexplicable bitterness washed over her heart.
Hailey really was something else. The man Gillian couldn't win over in five years had been brought entirely to heel by her in just a few short months.
Gillian pulled her gaze away, ignoring York for the rest of the night. Once he finally fell asleep, she left and headed back to her own rented apartment.
The next morning was the weekend.
Gillian got up, quickly freshened up, and headed to the hospital to meet Miles Stanton to familiarize herself with the administrative management process.
When she arrived, Miles handed her some breakfast.
His voice was warm and gentle. "Picked this up on the way. I figured you rushed out the door and skipped breakfast."
Gillian took the food, not bothering with false modesty. "Thanks, you're too thoughtful, Boss."
Miles raised an eyebrow. "Boss?"
Gillian nodded, taking a bite of her sandwich as she spoke. "You're my direct supervisor now, so yeah, you're the boss. Aren't you the largest shareholder of this hospital anyway?"
He smiled faintly. "When you put it like that, I suppose you're not wrong."
The two of them chatted and laughed as they walked into the hospital.
In truth, hospital management processes were largely the same everywhere, though as an administrator, she would constantly be pulled into various meetings.
Gillian found it a bit overwhelming at first, but with Miles's guidance, she quickly got into the swing of things.
-
During lunch.
Miles stared at the scars on her wrist.
"What happened to your arm?"
He had actually noticed them much earlier but hadn't found the right moment to ask, not wanting to seem overly intrusive by bringing it up out of nowhere.
Gillian paused, lowering her gaze.
