The next day.

Evelyn was in the back garden of The Foster Estate pruning the roses. Suddenly, the butler hurried over respectfully, whispering something urgently in her ear. Her brow instantly furrowed in utter disbelief. "What?"

She immediately dropped her shears and practically sprinted out of the garden.

Gillian was at work, taking her lunch break.

She was on the phone with Xavier Sterling, going over the final details for her father's sentence reduction, when she noticed Evelyn had already called twice. She seemed incredibly frantic.

"Mr. Sterling, we'll go over the finer details when I have some free time next. Something's come up right now."

After hanging up, Gillian quickly called Evelyn back.

The moment the line connected, Evelyn's panicked, sobbing voice rushed through the speaker. "Gilly, I really didn't want to bother you while you were working, but Beatrice..."

Gillian's heart tightened violently. "What happened to Beatrice?"

"Her heart started acting up today, and she's feeling terribly weak. We had the doctor look at her, and he said nothing is technically wrong, but Beatrice keeps saying she wants to see you. Can you come over to the Estate?"

Ever since Gillian had joined the Foster family, Beatrice had always treated her the best, exactly like her own flesh and blood.

Under these circumstances, Gillian could never refuse.

"Evelyn, don't panic, I'm on my way."

After hanging up, Gillian immediately asked her supervisor for the afternoon off and drove straight toward The Foster Estate, not daring to waste a single second.

When she arrived, Gillian noticed York's car was already parked outside.

She frowned, a terrible sense of dread settling in her chest. If York was already here, did that mean Beatrice really was...
