But it was undeniably a condescending act of charity.
"I think I might have offended Mrs. Foster at the estate today. Over dinner, you can teach me how to win her over..."
Faced with Hailey's manipulative, two-faced provocations, Gillian's expression didn't change in the slightest. She looked up at Hailey's innocent-looking face and suddenly let out a soft laugh.
"I've already done more than enough for you. Who you want to suck up to is none of my business. You claim to be the future Mrs. Foster, so that's your problem to solve. If you want to know how to please York's parents, you should go ask him directly."
Hailey's face instantly went ashen, her hands balling into tight fists. Gillian's words were perfectly designed to stab her right where it hurt the most.
Because no matter how many times she brought it up with York, he never showed the slightest genuine intention of officially introducing her to his parents, let alone telling her their preferences.
Hailey quickly forced her emotions back under control, looking at Gillian with wide, wounded eyes. "I'm just trying to help you finalize the divorce with York as quickly as possible!"
Gillian stood up, her white coat perfectly pressed. She was naturally tall, and even in flat shoes, she towered half a head over Hailey, who was wearing lifts. She looked down at her with a commanding, icy gaze.
Her tone was completely devoid of emotion. "Hailey, what gives you the right to boss me around? The fact that York indulges you?"
"Without him, what exactly are you to me? Nothing."
Hailey's expression froze, her entire body going rigid.
"What makes you think I need your help to divorce him? Let's be honest, you know deep down that he's the one refusing to sign the papers. If that weren't the case, you wouldn't be constantly harassing me."
With that, Gillian grabbed her medical charts and walked away.
Hailey looked absolutely livid, but this time, she didn't shamelessly chase after her.
Gillian's words had thoroughly stripped away her dignity, leaving her completely humiliated.
