Gillian paused for a moment, her clear eyes shifting back to York.
Had he been standing outside watching the entire ordeal? Then why hadn't he stepped in sooner to back Hailey up? Why wait until Evelyn came out to finally intervene and play the hero?
Her thoughts swirled, turning her mind into a tangled mess.
But as she stared at the man's stoic face through the driving rain, she realized that couldn't be the case.
It was far more likely that Hailey had texted him to complain. If York had witnessed it himself, there was no way he would have let her bully his precious sweetheart for that long.
If he didn't firmly believe she was pregnant, he probably wouldn't have even bothered to stop for her now.
Gillian gave a self-deprecating smirk, pushed the door open, and stepped out. "You're right. Being stubborn gets me nowhere. That's exactly why I'll be demanding a new car in our divorce settlement."
She stood under his umbrella, the torrential rain hammering against the fabric in a deafening rhythm. Her words, however, cut clearly through the noise, causing York's brows to knit tightly together.
He didn't respond. Without another word, he got into the driver's seat and drove off with a glacial expression.
It was rather surprising. Gillian had expected him to launch into another mocking tirade, but he remained utterly silent.
Since he wasn't speaking, she wasn't about to embarrass herself by trying to strike up a conversation. She sat quietly until they arrived at the hospital.
To her utter disbelief, Hailey was already there.
The woman was practically a lingering ghost.
She had just been completely humiliated at the Foster Estate, yet she still had the mood to show up at the hospital.
