The dispatcher's voice turned serious. "Lay the mother flat. Check for any spotting. Pregnant women shouldn't experience extreme emotional swings. As her husband, you need to step up and stop upsetting her."

York took a deep breath, looking down at the woman's deathly pale face, a heavy mess of emotions weighing on his chest.

"No bleeding," he confirmed after a quick check.

"Stay right there and wait for the paramedics," the dispatcher instructed.

After hanging up, York crouched by the sofa, tightly enveloping Gillian's cold hand in his. He stared at her ashen, fragile face.

Under the dim lighting, York looked equally devastated.

The ambulance would take some time to arrive.

He watched as Gillian's brow furrowed tightly, beads of cold sweat breaking out across her forehead.
