I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 161

At the very least, Gillian Jordan had assumed that since Hailey Sinclair was finally back, York Foster would be spending all his time with her.

"You're back?" York's voice was eerily calm as he watched her change her shoes. "I had no idea Mrs. Foster had a boyfriend on the side."

"Mr. Conrad simply misunderstood," Gillian replied. "You know I was only there for business."

York stared intently at her face, his dark eyes unreadable. He stood up, walked over to her, and gently rested his large hand on her stomach. "Don't forget you're carrying my child."

His icy tone felt like a deliberate warning.

"I'm well aware," Gillian said, pushing his hand away. "We have a deal. A partnership. You don't need to worry."

"Is that so?" York scoffed. "Then why did I hear you were plotting with Xavier Sterling to get your father out of Blackwood Penitentiary early?"

Gillian searched his face. The man looked composed and indifferent, but beneath the surface of those dark eyes, violent emotions seemed to be churning, desperate to break free.

She guessed he was angry—angry that she was slipping out of his control.

"You really want this baby," Gillian noted, holding his gaze. "Me having this child and getting my father out of prison early aren't mutually exclusive."

York's chest heaved. His face darkened into something terrifying, as if he were brewing a massive storm, but he forcefully shoved the fury down.

Did she really want to leave him that badly? Did she loathe every single second spent with him, constantly scheming her escape?

"What do you want from me? Gillian, you couldn't stand Hailey, so I sent her abroad. I—"

He paused, his voice turning frigid. "During the time she's been gone, haven't I treated you well enough? What more do you want? As Mrs. Foster, you have endless privileges. You want the wedding we never had? I'll give it to you. I'll give you anything. All I ask is your loyalty and for you to have this baby. Is that really so hard?"

His gaze was as biting as winter frost.
