The paramedics bumped into Gillian as she hurriedly headed for the door, frowning slightly. "Are you the one who called 911? A man made the call. Where is your husband?"
"Where are you experiencing discomfort?"
"I'm so sorry, I just passed out from low blood sugar. I don't need to go to the hospital. I deeply apologize for wasting your time—"
"My husband was just overreacting and called for an ambulance. I'm really fine."
The paramedic looked her up and down, noting her sickly pale complexion. "Even if you feel fine, we need to do a preliminary check. Come with us to the hospital."
Gillian took a deep breath. "I'm incredibly sorry, but I have a pressing emergency and cannot go to the hospital right now."
The paramedic frowned in annoyance. "Do you think emergency services are a game?"
After giving her a stern lecture, the medical team finally left.
As Gillian walked out, Xavier Sterling's call came through.
"Your father suffered a sudden heart attack in the medical bay. Luckily, the guards at Blackwood Penitentiary found him in time. He's been resuscitated and is out of danger for now."
Gillian's heart lurched. "How could this happen again? I thought his condition was under control?"
Who was deliberately triggering him?
Xavier pressed his lips together, his tone turning grave. "If your father was truly framed and sent to prison, there are certainly people out there who don't want him released early."
"His release is going to threaten a lot of powerful interests. Whoever benefits from keeping him locked up is definitely pulling strings behind the scenes."
"But this might not be entirely bad news. We can use this to track down whoever framed him in the first place. We might even be able to overturn the case and finally clear his name."
