I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 171

She began to wonder if she was being played. Had York called her over just to leave her hanging?

Gillian stood up, unwilling to wait any longer.

But just as she was about to leave...

The sound of the door opening echoed through the room.

York returned, holding a file folder in one hand.

He tugged at his tie with one hand, pulling it off and tossing it onto the floor, then unfastened his cufflinks and rolled up his sleeves, revealing his toned forearms.

Gillian looked at him. "Did you need me for something?"

York shot her a glance and strode toward the sofa, sprawling out with his legs parted, looking exhausted yet lethargic.

He rubbed his temples, his voice cold. "Did you enjoy your date with Miles tonight?"

She caught the scent of alcohol on him; he must have just returned from a business dinner.

But this time, he appeared completely lucid, not drunk in the slightest.

"You called me here just to interrogate me about that?" Gillian stood tall, looking down at him. "I don't want to keep explaining things you've misunderstood. No matter what I say, you choose not to believe me anyway."

He looked up, his gaze locking onto her small face, and suddenly let out a biting chuckle. "To think I actually felt a shred of pity for you."

He had actually considered letting her go.

She was the one who provoked him first, and now she was the one demanding to leave. Who gave her the right?

Let her go so she could be happy with another man? He realized he had been far too merciful.

Gillian furrowed her brow, thoroughly confused by his words, a faint sense of unease rising in her chest.

A moment later, she watched York open the folder and pull out a document. Across the top, the bold words 'The Divorce Settlement' caught her eye.
