"Hailey, it's getting late. I'll take you home," York said.
He then turned to Gillian. "Go upstairs and pack two outfits for me."
Gillian took a deep breath, a bitter ache rising in her chest.
An inexplicable emotion tangled in her heart, something she couldn't quite put into words. It felt almost like resentment that tonight's negotiations had to end this way.
Ultimately, she stood up and headed upstairs to pack.
While she was upstairs coordinating his clothes, York walked in. He leaned against the wall in his dress shirt, watching her.
She used to do this for him all the time, so her movements were exceptionally practiced and fluid.
Seeing him enter, Gillian paused. She stared at him, her lips parting as if wanting to say something, but the words wouldn't come out. She looked incredibly hesitant.
York spoke up. "If you have something to say, just say it."
Gillian lowered her eyes, her grip tightening on the garments. "You're not sleeping at home tonight?"
"No." York smiled faintly. "You heard it yourself. Hailey is leaving tomorrow night. I need to keep her company."
He glanced down at the clothes bunched in her hands. "Are you done packing?"
"You're wrinkling them. They need to be perfectly ironed."
She immediately loosened her grip, pressed her lips together, and quickly folded the clothes before placing them into a bag.
She hadn't been back since she moved out, but glancing around the walk-in closet, it seemed all of York's clothes had been brought back.
She had no idea when he had moved his things back in...
But on second thought, with Hailey moving abroad, it made sense for him to return.
"All set." Gillian handed him the bag.
The man took it and turned to leave.
Gillian took two quick steps forward and grabbed his large hand.
York looked back, raising an eyebrow at her.
She gritted her teeth, squeezed her eyes shut, and forced the words out. "What you said tonight... does that offer still stand?"
