Gillian had terminated the pregnancy early in her first trimester, so there was no need for hospitalization.
A simple IV drip was enough, though she needed plenty of rest.
She didn't leave the hospital. Instead, she sat quietly outside the intensive care unit.
Her mother was clinging to life inside as a team of doctors consulted to formulate a surgical plan.
Right now, her phone was flooded with missed calls and text messages from York. She ignored all of them.
Since she had made that post, he probably knew about the pregnancy by now. He was undoubtedly calling to interrogate her and force her to get an abortion.
From down the hall, Miles spotted Gillian sitting alone in the corridor. Her frail, quiet silhouette looked chillingly pale and sickly.
Carrying some nutritional supplements, he walked over to her.
"Why did you push up the procedure?" Miles sat down beside her, his gaze soft. "Are you holding up okay?"
Gillian looked up at him and forced a pale smile. "I'm fine. I'm just worried about my mom."
The man frowned slightly, his voice deep and comforting. "Are you really just worried about your mother? I looked up several cases similar to hers. The success rate is actually quite high."
They only needed to monitor for postoperative rejection and infection. If all went well, she would be completely in the clear.
Gillian knew Miles was just trying to comfort her.
She was fully aware of the extreme risks involved in this surgery.
Her mother had already been issued a critical condition notice. The actual success rate of the operation was impossible to guarantee.
"I know," Gillian murmured weakly.
Miles urged, "You need to eat something. Sitting out here won't let you see her anyway. You just had a procedure and your body is fragile. You need proper rest. Don't destroy your own health before your mother even has a chance to recover."
Ever since her mother's crisis began, no one else had bothered to check on her. Only Miles constantly made trips to the hospital to look after her.
Xavier Sterling would occasionally send a text to ask about her mother's condition, too, since he was the one who had rushed her to the hospital.
Gillian understood that Xavier's check-ins were simply out of gentlemanly courtesy and his personal principles.
It only made her bitterly mock her own isolation—she had abandoned everything and everyone else just for her marriage.
