But the moment he spoke, the aura around York turned dangerously cold. He shot Miles a mocking look. "If she doesn't go with me, is she supposed to go with you? Does Vice President Stanton have a particular interest in married women?"

York let out a dark chuckle. "She is my pregnant wife. Am I supposed to be fine with her hanging around you in the dead of night?"

"So she's your pregnant wife," Miles retorted sarcastically. "No wonder Gillian wants a divorce. Has Mr. Foster finished dealing with his mistress yet?"

A terrifyingly hostile energy radiated from York. Gillian knew he was furious.

Miles was only speaking up to defend her. York was notoriously ruthless, and she couldn't let Miles paint a target on his own back for her sake.

"Miles, let me talk to him alone. You should head back. I'll be fine," she intervened, diffusing the explosive tension just in time.

Miles hesitated for a second before choosing to respect her wishes.
