Chapter 14 Defiance

Lady Flourish’s POV

“What the fuck are you doing here?”

Harold turned around just as my father walked into the living room. “That is no way to speak to your mate. And why are you dressed in work clothes?”

I stared at him. “Because I’m just coming from the office, Alpha. You told me to come early.”

“Go upstairs and change. Then come so you can greet your mate and prepare for dinner,” he said sternly. He never liked the fact that I went into tech, and he still believed that she–wolves shouldn’t be involved in any type of work that required the use of their brains.

It felt like my head was about to explode.

I clenched my fists and stared at him, then back at Harold. “Harold, why are you here?”

“He’s here because I called him,” Lydia’s voice echoed from the kitchen, where the faint aroma of stir fried meat was already filling the air.

Her expression was careful, studying me as she smiled graciously.

“Don’t worry about Flourish’s tantrums, Harold. She can be feisty at times,” she said, half giggling.

Harold leaned forward, a lazy smirk on his lips, keeping his eyes locked on me. “I know, Lady Lydia, it’s one of her many attractive traits.”

“Oh for goddess sake,” I muttered, suddenly remembering how hungry I was.

Damian’s voice echoed in my head as I tried to drown out my father’s voice as he spoke to Harold.

“Don’t let them control you.”

I took a deep breath and excused myself, heading for my room upstairs.

“Where are you going?” My father called out behind me.

“To change, Alpha,” I retorted, climbing the stairs faster.

I got to my room, pushed open the door and froze.

Everything was different. My lavender mirror was switched out to a disturbingly bright purple,

I hated pink.

“What the hell…” I took a slow step inside.

At first I thought I had accidentally walked into Selene’s room, but I recognized my antique doll collection sitting prettily on top of my wardrobe. At least, that was the only thing that was unchanged.

I turned towards the bathroom, where the white noise of running water accompanied by steam was coming from.

The door opened, and Selene walked out in a bright pink towel. She saw me and yelped, nearly falling to the floor.

“Flourish! What are you doing here? Goddess you scared the life out of me!”

I folded my arms, narrowing my eyes at her. “I should be asking you that question. Why is my room bright pink?”

She shot me a disdainful look, then scoffed. “What? You’re never home, and your room has more access to moonlight than mine. A wolf has needs, Flourish. It’s nothing to be upset about,” she said, walking to the wardrobe.

“Nothing to be upset about? What happened to telling your father to get you another room that’s closer to the moonlight? Must you enter my space without asking?”

Selene sighed and turned to me. “Flourish, please stop being so bitter all the time. It doesn’t suit you.”

That was the last straw.

My expression turned blank, and I quietly took off my heels, walking to the dresser first.

“What are you doing?” She asked.

I ignored her, yanking the bright pink mirror off the wall.

Then, I walked to the door, and tossed it into her room, which was right beside mine. I smiled faintly as the sound of the mirror shattering reached my ears.

“Flourish! Have you lost your mind?” Selene shrieked, a horrified expression on her face.

I shot her a glance, moving to the wardrobe next. “Oh, me? Not yet, but I’ll lose it soon.”

I grabbed her box, which I noticed was on top of some of my clothes, and hurled it into the

room next. Then, I grabbed her skincare, her perfumes, her shoes, every single thing that wasn’t mine and hurled it into her room messily while she kept shrieking for help.

Eventually, Lydia ran upstairs to find out what the commotion was about.

“Flourish! What are you doing?” She yelled, running over to comfort her daughter, who was crying hysterically.

I panted, then pointed a finger at both of them. “This is what you wanted right? Lydia, doesn’t Selene leave highschool this year? But you haven’t taught her anything about behaving properly or respecting people’s boundaries. Step up, or all the shame will fall back on you.”

Selene lunged at me in anger, but her mother held her back.

“Flourish, Selene didn’t think it would be a big deal, and she didn’t know it would upset you so much. We’ll return everything to how it was, and I’ll talk to Garret about it. The mansion needs a renovation anyways.”

I felt my heart sink at her words. This house was the only thing I had to remember my mother after her death, now they wanted to take that away too?

“Whatever. Grandma would never agree to it,” I said and stormed out of the room.

I called Mira and had her clean up the room and call a painter to change the color back to lavender. Then, I locked the room and took the keys.

By the time I got downstairs, I was tired, hungry, and Harold’s conversation with my dad had just ended.

I stood at the foot of the stairs, watching them.

“Ah, finally. Flourish, I think it’s time for you to go home with Harold. He has had a long day from visiting neighboring packs, and you should take care of him,” my father said, urging me to come closer.

My lip curled up in disgust.

“That won’t be necessary, I’m sure Harold has more than enough people to take care of him.”
