Alpha Damian’s POV
I moved in front of Flourish before the study door opened, and my wolf rose fully beneath my skin as Harold’s scent reached me through the wood.
He smelled frightened, but there was something else beneath the fear that made my instincts reject the idea that he had come here simply to warn us.
“Stay behind me,” I told her.
Flourish’s fingers caught my shirt. “I’m not hiding.”
“I know,” I said, looking at her. “But let me handle the first few seconds.”
She nodded reluctantly, and the door opened.
Harold stood outside with his hands raised. “I’m not here to fight.”
I kept my stance. “Then tell me why you’re here.”
His eyes moved toward Flourish. “I need to speak to her.”
“You can speak from there.”
Harold swallowed hard. “Garret knew who your father was.”
Flourish stepped forward. “How do you know?”
“Because I found the records.”
“Where?”
“Stonehedge.”
My wolf growled low, and Harold’s expression tightened. “Your father was protected by Stonehedge.”
“Who was he?”
“I don’t know.”
Flourish’s face hardened. “You’re lying.”
“I’m not.”

“Then why did my mother write that he belonged to the Voss bloodline?”
Harold looked at her steadily. “Because he did.”
“His name.”
He hesitated a moment too long before he answered. “Caelan.”
Flourish’s breathing stopped, and my wolf reacted to the name immediately. I knew it, not from anything personal, but from old Stonehedge records buried years back.
“Caelan Voss?” I asked.
Harold nodded. “Yes.”
Flourish stared at him. “Who was he?”
“Your mother’s first love.”
Her face changed completely. “That’s impossible.”
“They were together before Garret,” Harold said, shaking his head.
My wolf grew alert at once. “What happened?”
“Caelan disappeared.”
“Why?”
“He was accused of betraying the Voss bloodline.”
Flourish’s hands tightened at her sides. “By whom?”
“His own family,” Harold said, glancing toward the letter still in her grip. “Because he carried the strongest bloodline trait in the family.”
“What trait?”
He hesitated again. “Control.”
Flourish frowned. “Control over what?”
“Wolves.”
The room fell silent, and my wolf reacted sharply to the word.

“Caelan could suppress another wolf’s instincts,” Harold continued.
Flourish stared at him. “That’s why they hunted him.”
“Yes.”

I thought back to the moments when Flourish’s wolf had reacted strangely around certain people, and suddenly several small details felt heavier than they had before. Her unusual sensitivity. The way some Alpha commands affected her differently than they should have. The fact that her wolf had always seemed stronger than a woman her age had any right to carry.
I looked at her. She looked back at me.
“Damian.”
“I’m thinking,” I said.
Harold stepped closer. “There’s more.”
I turned toward him. “What?”
“Caelan didn’t disappear.”
Flourish’s face tightened. “Where is he?”
“We don’t know.”
“Then how do you know he’s alive?”
“Because someone has been using his clearance.”
My wolf went rigid. The Stonehedge fleet. The old credentials. Elara’s records. All of it connected in my mind at once, piece after piece falling into place.
“Whose access?” I asked.
“Caelan’s.”
Flourish stepped back. “Then my father didn’t authorize the vehicle.”
“No,” Harold said, his expression darkening, “Someone used Caelan’s old clearance.”
I looked at her. “That changes everything.”
She nodded slowly. “But why kill Garret?”
“Because Garret knew where Caelan was,” Harold said.

My wolf snarled at that. “Where?”
Harold’s eyes shifted toward the window. “He was hiding him.”
Flourish went pale. “My father?”
“Yes.”
She shook her head. “Why would he hide the man who was with my mother before him?”
Harold’s answer came quiet and final. “Because Caelan was your real father.”
Flourish closed her eyes, and her wolf surged violently until her eyes turned gold. I stepped toward her at once.
“Flourish.”
She pushed me back gently. “I need air.”
I caught her hand instead. “Stay with me.”
She looked at me, her voice breaking. “I don’t know what I’m feeling.”
“I know.”
“I’m angry.”
“I know.”
“I’m scared.”
“I know.”
She stepped closer and rested her forehead against my chest, and I wrapped my arms around her without another word.
“Whatever happens next, you’re not facing it alone,” I said.
Her fingers tightened around my shirt. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
We stayed like that for several seconds before Harold spoke again.
“There’s one problem.”
