The access point was inside Stonehedge.
Rhys enlarged the location on his screen while Harold remained beside me, still connected to my father’s video call. Garret had stopped speaking, and his face had tightened as he watched us examine the alert.
“Can you identify the account?” I asked Rhys.
“I’ve got the username, but the account hasn’t been active for months. Someone used its credentials to enter the financial system.”
“Who owns it?”
“I’m checking.”
I ended the call with my father before he could interrupt again. Whatever he knew about the tunnels, I needed to deal with the breach in my company’s system first.
Cheryl joined us from her office and confirmed the account belonged to a former employee who had remained on the payroll despite failing to complete assigned work. The employee had been dismissed after an internal review, but the account had never been fully deactivated.
“Why was it still active?” I asked.
“IT marked it for closure, but the request wasn’t completed,” Cheryl replied. “I’ll find out who was responsible.”
“Start a formal audit. I want the access history, payroll records, attendance logs, and every approval connected to that account.”
Harold glanced at Rhys. “If those credentials were used in Stonehedge, we should bring the employee in now.”
“We will,” I said. “But we’re not deciding they’re guilty before we know who used the account.”
“They had access to your company and our security network.”
“And that’s why we need the records.”
Cheryl opened the employee’s file and began sharing the documents with our legal representative.

The dismissal had already caused a dispute involving Steele Tech, where a relative of my father had challenged the company’s recent employment decisions.
The complaint accused me of using my authority to target family members. I had heard the accusation before, but seeing it attached to the account now under investigation made me want to read every line.
“Bring up the attendance records,” I told Cheryl.
She displayed the monthly reports. Several absences had been recorded without approval, and the employee had missed required meetings and failed to submit work on time.
The payroll entries showed regular payments despite the missed assignments.
Performance reports from the same period documented repeated warnings, followed by a formal review and the decision to terminate employment.
“Our policy was followed,” the HR director said. “The warnings were issued, and the employee had an opportunity to respond.”
“Then why does the complaint say the dismissal was personal?”
“Because someone has changed parts of the digital file.”
Cheryl opened the revised record beside the original. The altered version removed some attendance violations and changed the wording of a manager’s notes, making the dismissal appear to have followed a personal disagreement rather than documented performance issues.
“Who changed it?” I asked.
“We’re tracing the edits,” Cheryl said. “The account history should show which credentials were
used.”
Rhys leaned toward the screen. “Those credentials match the ones used at the underground control panel.”
Harold’s expression hardened. “That’s enough to arrest the employee.”
“No,” I said. “It’s enough to question them.”
“Flourish, someone accessed our underground system using their credentials.”
“Or someone stole their credentials. If we arrest them without asking what happened, we may lose the chance to find out who’s behind this.”
Harold looked ready to argue, but Magnus spoke from the other side of the room.

“She’s right. We need the person alive, available, and willing to explain what they know.”
Harold gave Rhys a short nod. “Bring them here under guard.”
Rhys arranged a secure meeting room within the estate. The employee would be accompanied by a Stonehedge pack guard and a company representative, with no access to the wider estate or its restricted areas.
While we waited, I asked Cheryl to freeze any further changes to the disputed records.
I also instructed her to keep the company’s ordinary operations moving, with additional approval required for unusual payments or changes to shareholder authority.
“I don’t want the entire company shutting down because of this,” I said. “Flag the risks, but keep the staff working.”
“Understood,” Cheryl replied. “I’ll send the instructions to department heads now.”
Harold remained near the door, speaking quietly with Rhys about the estate’s security.
His wolf was close to the surface; I could tell from the way his eyes kept shifting toward the corridor whenever a guard passed.
I checked the company documents again while they prepared the room. The attempted share transfer, the governance request, and the altered employment file had all appeared during the same period, but I still didn’t know whether they were connected or simply being used to create confusion.
The employee arrived with the guard and company representative. They looked tense and kept glancing at the security cameras mounted near the ceiling.
I introduced myself and explained that we were investigating the use of their account. The company representative sat beside them, while Rhys remained near the monitoring terminal.
“Did you access F-Tech financial system today?” I asked.
“No.”
“Do you still have your login details?”
“I did, but I haven’t used them since I left.”
“Were you aware that your credentials were used to access Stonehedge’s underground control panel?”
Their face changed.
