Rhys was still checking the unknown number when Harold told him to arrange the escort. I waited beside him, watching his expression as he worked through the security report.
“Beaumont Legal has no immediate alerts,” Rhys said at last. “The building’s security system is active, and there haven’t been any reported incidents.”
“Check the surrounding streets too,” Harold said. “I don’t want anyone waiting outside.”
Rhys nodded and made another call. I slipped my phone into my bag and looked at Harold.
“I’m going to the meeting.”
“I know.”
“You’re coming, aren’t you?”
“Yes.”
I had expected that answer. “You can accompany me, but you’ll stay outside the meeting room unless I ask you to join us.”
His brows drew together. “Flourish—”
“That’s the condition. Eugene asked to speak with me about a professional matter. I need to hear him out without turning it into a security briefing.”
Harold held my gaze for a moment before giving a short nod.
“Fine. But Rhys stays close.”
We left Stonehedge after Rhys confirmed the route and assigned two warriors to accompany us. Harold rode beside me, while Rhys followed in the vehicle behind us. The drive to Beaumont Legal passed without incident, though Harold checked his phone several times.
When we arrived, the receptionist greeted us and led us toward Eugene’s office. Harold remained near the hallway entrance, speaking briefly with Rhys while I went inside.
Eugene stood as I entered.
“Flourish. Thank you for coming.”
“You said you found something about one of the shell companies.”

“I did. I’ve arranged for a legal contact to discuss what they know.” He gestured toward the chairs. “The person has access to information that may help us understand who was behind the companies connected to the tunnels.”
I sat down and placed my bag beside me. “What information?”
“Some records involving the companies’ ownership and their financial arrangements. I haven’t seen everything yet, so I don’t want to draw conclusions before we speak.”
“Is this person connected to the company directly?”
“Possibly through a client. That’s what we need to establish.”
He opened a folder and showed me several pages. The names and transactions were familiar from the documents we had reviewed at F-Tech, though these records contained details I hadn’t seen before.
I read through them carefully, stopping at a company name I recognized.
“This one appeared in our audit.”
Eugene leaned forward. “In the records from F-Tech?”
“Yes. It was linked to the equipment purchases and vehicle expenses. We couldn’t confirm who controlled it.”
“That’s why I wanted you here. The contact may be able to clarify the ownership.”
I asked a few questions about the documents, and Eugene explained what he could. He didn’t have enough information to confirm who had arranged the payments, but he believed the contact could fill in some gaps.
Harold remained in the hallway. Through the open door, I could see him standing with his arms folded while Rhys spoke quietly beside him. He looked impatient, and I knew he was listening to every word that carried out of the office.
Eugene checked his watch.
“They should have arrived by now.”
“Have you called?”
“I sent a message. No reply yet.”
We waited a few minutes. Eugene reviewed the pages again, while I checked the time on my phone. The legal contact still hadn’t arrived.

Harold appeared at the doorway.
“Have you received any more messages?”
I looked up.
“Any calls?”
“No, Harold.”
“No.”
He stepped inside. “You should tell me if that changes.”
“I will.”
His eyes moved to the documents on Eugene’s desk. “Is this related to the tunnels?”
“It may be,” I said. “We’re waiting for the contact to explain.”
Harold’s gaze returned to me. “And you still think this is safe?”
“I think we checked the building before coming here. Rhys is outside, and you’re standing right there.”
“That doesn’t mean they can’t track you.”
I lowered my voice. “I received a message telling me not to bring you. I already told you We don’t know who sent it or why.”
that.
His wolf stirred. I felt the change in his aura before I saw the receptionist glance toward the office. A staff member passing in the hallway slowed, then quickly continued walking.
“Harold,” I said, “you’re making everyone uncomfortable.”
His jaw tightened. “I’m trying to protect you.”
“And I understand that. But frightening the staff won’t help us identify the sender.”
He looked toward the hallway, then stepped back from the doorway. The pressure in the air eased, and the receptionist returned to her desk.
Eugene’s phone rang. He glanced at the screen and answered.
“Yes?”
He listened, then frowned.

“Are you sure? That wasn’t the address we agreed on.”
Harold turned toward him.

Eugene raised a hand, asking us to wait while he listened to his assistant. His expression grew more serious.
“When did they change it?” he asked. “Did they give a reason?”
He listened again before ending the call.
“The contact has changed the meeting location,” he said. “My assistant was just informed.”
“Where?” I asked.
“She didn’t give me the full address yet. She said the contact sent it directly and asked us to meet there instead.”
Harold shook his head. “Cancel it.”
