Chapter 291 Callwd To Dartwood

Alpha Damian POV

I didn’t argue when she said she was coming.

Leaving her behind would have meant putting her in a territory that had been compromised, and I had no reason to believe Stonehedge was safer.

On the road, I sent a message to Dartwood council ordering them to keep the eastern gates open for us. I contacted healers and told them to prepare in case border teams returned with injuries.

Flourish watched me from the passenger seat.

“You’re expecting a fight.”

“I’m preparing for one.”

“That isn’t the same thing.”

“No. But it keeps people alive.”

The call from Dartwood had been brief. Ragnar had said he needed me there immediately, and his voice had been serious enough that I had not asked questions over the phone.

Flourish sat beside me in the car while one of my drivers took the main road toward Dartwood. She had not said much since we left Stonehedge.

“What did Ragnar say exactly?” she asked.

“That wolves have been testing our borders.”

“Testing?”

“Coming close, pulling back, returning from another point.”

She looked at me.

“Like what happened at Stonehedge?”

“Exactly.”

My wolf had been awake since the call.

He paced beneath my skin, reacting to every thought of Voss and the Eastern Army.

“They’re looking for a weak point,” he said.

“I know.”

His growl stayed low.

The last time we’d seen that pattern, it had ended with bloodshed.

Dartwood’s territory came into view before sunset. Security posts had already been doubled near the main road, and I could smell more warriors along the boundary than usual.

Ragnar was waiting outside the estate.

He came toward the car as soon as we stopped.

“Alpha.”

“What happened?”

“Three sightings in four days.”

“Same wolves?”

“We don’t know. They haven’t stayed long enough for anyone to get close.”

“Then how do you know they’re testing us?”

Ragnar handed me his phone.

The map showed three points along the western border.

“They appeared here first. Two nights later, they were farther south. Yesterday, another group was spotted near the old service road.”

I studied the locations.

“That isn’t random.”

“No.”

Flourish stepped beside me.

“Did they cross the wards?”

“No. They stayed just outside them.”

“That’s what the Stonehedge wolves reported before the first strike,” I said.

Ragnar nodded.

“We compared the reports this morning.”

My wolf pushed forward.

“Voss.”

I clenched my jaw.

“Or someone working with him.”

Ragnar looked at me.

“There is another possibility.”

I knew what he meant.

“Callum.”

Flourish’s eyes moved between us.

“You think he could be involved?”

“I don’t know,” I said. “But we can’t assume these people belong to one group.”

That was the part I disliked most.

If Voss’s people were watching Dartwood while someone else was watching Stonehedge, we could be dealing with two separate groups testing the same defenses.

They might be looking for information, access, or a way to force one pack against another.

Ragnar continued.

“They haven’t attacked anyone.”

“Yet.”

I handed his phone back.

“Double the patrols. I want the western and southern borders watched through the night. Put experienced wolves on the shifts, not recruits.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

“Check every vehicle entering the territory. I also want scent records taken from every

suspicious location.”

Ragnar nodded.

“Anything else?”

“Wake the old border teams. If anyone has seen these patterns before, I want their reports.”

“I’ll handle it.”

He turned to leave.

“Ragnar.”

He stopped.

“If anyone crosses the boundary without permission, don’t wait for my approval.”

He understood.

“Yes, Alpha.”

We went inside.

Daciana was waiting near the entrance.

She usually had something to say when I returned to Dartwood. This time, she barely looked at

“You knew,” I said.

She glanced at Flourish.

“Knew what?”

“You’ve seen strange wolves around the estate.”

Her expression changed.

“I’ve seen them.”

“How long?”

“A few weeks.”

I stared at her.

“A few weeks?”

“They never came close enough for me to think it mattered.”

“What did they look like?”

“Different people. Different scents. Some looked like travelers. One man came twice. Expensive clothes. Good boots. He asked about the estate road.”

Flourish’s attention sharpened.

“Did you remember his scent?”

Daciana shook her head.

“No. I didn’t think I needed to.”

My wolf growled.

“You should have told us.”

I kept my voice controlled.

“You should have.”

Daciana looked down.

“I know.”

I didn’t waste time arguing with her.

“From now on, anything unusual gets reported.”

She nodded.

“Yes.”

After she left, Flourish touched my arm.

“You did the right thing.”

“I should have known something was happening.”

“You weren’t here.”

By nightfall, the first additional patrols were already moving through the territory.

I changed into combat clothes and headed outside with Flourish. She followed without asking whether she should.

“You’re staying close to me,” I said.

“I wasn’t planning to wander off.”

We walked toward the western boundary.

The air changed as we moved farther from the estate. The pack’s wards ran along the trees and open ground, invisible unless someone crossed the protected line.

I could feel them through my wolf, a constant pressure against my senses.

We stopped near the first location Ragnar had marked.

“Anything?” I asked.

Flourish closed her eyes.

Her wolf stirred.

“Wait.”

I stayed quiet.

She moved closer to the boundary and breathed in slowly.

Then she looked at me.

“I know that scent.”

“From where?”

“The tunnel entrance.”
