Chapter 295 What Phina Knew
Lady Flourish POV
I was still in Dartwood when Damian told me Harold had ended his marriage to Phina.
We were in the estate office, going through the latest border reports.
Ragnar had left a few minutes earlier after updating Damian about the patrols, and I was reading Rhys’s notes on the silver bracelet when Damian put his phone down.
“Harold called Magnus from the airport.”
I looked up.
“What happened?”
“Phina lied about a pregnancy. The child isn’t his.”
For a moment, I said nothing.
I had no sympathy for Phina, but I didn’t feel pleased either. There was too much happening around us for her marriage to be the thing that mattered most.
“How does this affect Stonehedge?”
Damian rubbed his jaw.
“Her position there is going to change.”
My wolf lifted her head.
“Ask what she knows.”
I closed Rhys’s report.
“Then we should.”
The timing bothered me. Harold had only just discovered what Phina had hidden, and we had just found a symbol from the Stonehedge tunnels hanging at Dartwood’s border.
The two things might be unrelated, but I was done assuming that.
I called Rhys.
“Dig into Phina.”
He answered from his car.
“Her marriage?”
“Everything. Finances, clinic records, old accounts, contacts. Find out where her money came from before she married Harold.”
“You think she’s connected?”
“I think we should know.”
“I’ll start now.”
By the time we returned to Stonehedge, Rhys had already found something.
He met us in the security room with several files open on the main screen.
“Phina received regular payments for years.”
“From whom?”
“That took longer.”
He pulled up the first account.
“It was registered under a company that no longer exists. The company received money from another holding company. That one was owned by another.”
Damian folded his arms.
“How many layers?”
“Four.”
Rhys opened the final record.
The account behind all of them was linked to Voss family holdings.
I stared at the screen.
“So Phina was being paid by Voss.”
“Indirectly,” Rhys said. “But the trail is strong.”
My wolf went silent.
I looked at Damian.
“This wasn’t about Harold.”
“Apparently not.”
Rhys continued.
“The payments started years before Phina married him.”
“How much?”
“Enough that she didn’t need another source of income.”
I sat down.
“Get her.”
Rhys hesitated.
“She agreed to speak with you.”
That surprised me.
“Where?”
“Secure call. She’s already waiting.”
I took the tablet.
Phina appeared on the screen a moment later.
She looked different from the woman I remembered from the dinner stories around Stonehedge. There was no polished smile, no attempt to appear composed. Her eyes were tired.
“You wanted to speak to me,” she said.
“I know about the payments.”
Her face tightened.
“Then you know enough.”
“No. I don’t.”
Damian remained beside me, but I handled the call.
“How long have you worked for them?”
Phina looked away. “I didn’t know it was them at first.”
“That isn’t what I asked.”
She took a breath.
“Years.”
“Before Harold?”
“Yes.”
My fingers tightened around the tablet.
“Why?”
“They approached me before I ever met him.”
“Who approached you?”
“I never met the person who controlled the money.”
“Then how did you receive instructions?”
“Through messages. Different numbers. Different accounts. Sometimes through people I never saw twice.”
“What were you supposed to do?”
Her eyes dropped.
“Watch.”
“Watch what?”
“Stonehedge.”
The word sat between us.
