I Refuse To Be Your Luna (Flourish and Harold) novel Chapter 79

Chapter 79 The Truth In The Study

Lady Flourish’s POV

Grandma’s room was unusually quiet.

The steady rhythm of the heart monitor echoed through the room while the faint scent of medicine lingered in the air.

Grandma lay peacefully on the bed, her breathing supported by the oxygen tubing, the feeding tube resting neatly against her cheek.

Had it not been for the countless machines surrounding her, I could have mistaken her for someone enjoying a peaceful afternoon nap.

I sat beside the bed, gently adjusting the blanket around her shoulders before dipping a cotton swab into water to moisten her dry lips.

“I’m here, Grandma,” I murmured softly. “You don’t have to worry about anything. I’ll take care of everything until you wake up.”

My fingers lightly brushed over the back of her hand.

Just then, a familiar presence brushed against my consciousness.

‘Flourish.’

Devina. Without hesitation, I accepted the mind link.

“Dev?” I asked quietly.

Her voice came through in a hurried whisper.

“Don’t say anything. Just listen. Grandpa’s calling everyone into the study, and I want you to hear everything. You deserve to know what he decides.”

I glanced at Grandma before silently agreeing.

“…Thank you.”

The sounds around Devina gradually became clearer.

Footsteps.

Doors opening.

Then someone shut the heavy wooden door.

The atmosphere inside Stonehedge Villa felt suffocating even through the mind link.

After seeing off the remaining guests, Ragnar and Daciana returned alongside Alpha Magnus. The moment they entered the villa, several relatives and close family friends surrounded them, each asking the same question.

“What happened tonight?”

“How did the Luna Rite turn into that?”

“Was Alpha Harold really proposing to Lady Fina all these years?”

“Is the marriage alliance canceled?”

Question after question rained down on them.

Ragnar could only tighten his jaw while Daciana forced an awkward smile.

The truth was impossible to explain. The more they tried to speak, the more every sentence caught in their throats.

Eventually, they dismissed everyone and retreated into the study.

Only then did silence finally settle over the room.

Daciana was the first to speak.

“Alpha Magnus,” she began carefully, “Flourish completely lost control today. Even if she was angry with Harold, she had no right to make such a scene and shame both families in front of everyone.”

She paused before turning toward Ragnar. “Ragnar, you’re not seriously planning to continue helping the Garrett family after this, are you?”

Ragnar slowly shook his head before releasing a long, exhausted sigh. “I don’t think there’s any point anymore.”

His expression was darker than I had ever heard before. “So many influential Alphas attended today’s ceremony, only to witness the Virel family becoming a laughingstock. Whether Garrett or Flourish intended it or not, the damage has already been done.”

I quietly lowered my eyes. I could hear the disappointment in Ragnar’s voice.

He was angry.

Not only at me. He was angry at Dad as well.

The alliance had been settled long ago, yet everything had fallen apart before everyone’s eyes.

Before anyone else could speak, Alpha Magnus suddenly slammed his cane against the floor. The sharp sound echoed through the study.

“So now you’re blaming everyone else?”

His voice thundered through the room. The old Alpha’s brows drew tightly together as a vein pulsed against his temple.

Devina immediately stepped forward. “Grandpa…”

She looked first at Ragnar and Daciana before speaking without the slightest hesitation. “That’s not fair.”

Both of them looked toward her.

“Dad. Mom.”

“I’ve heard Flourish tell both of you more than once that she wanted to call off the engagement.”

“You kept delaying because you said Grandpa’s health couldn’t handle the news.”

She took another step forward.

“And the day before yesterday, Garrett even drugged her and locked her up just to make sure she couldn’t skip today’s ceremony.”

Silence spread through the study.

“If Lady Josephine hadn’t suddenly fallen ill, Flourish would’ve come here herself to explain everything to Grandpa.”

Devina folded her arms across her chest.

“You all pushed her into a corner step by step. And now you’re saying everything is her fault?”

I couldn’t help smiling faintly. The knot in my chest loosened just a little.

At least someone still understood me. Daciana hurriedly tried to explain.

“Dev, don’t put it like that. I know you and Flourish are close, but we’re still your family.”

Devina merely curled her lips. The skepticism written across her face spoke louder than words.

“Enough.” Alpha Magnus’s voice instantly silenced the room.

He slowly turned toward Daciana. “Flourish wanted to cancel the engagement before any of this happened.”

His gaze became frighteningly sharp. “Why didn’t you tell me? Were you really planning to hide it from me because my health isn’t what it used to be? Or did you intend to let today’s embarrassment happen and send me to my grave while you were at it?”

His breathing grew heavier. “Is a mate bond some sort of game to all of you?”

“If Flourish has completely lost trust in Harold, do you honestly think I could force her to become his Luna?”

His eyes narrowed.

“You wouldn’t have threatened her.”

“You wouldn’t have asked Garrett to drag her to today’s ceremony…would you?”

Daciana’s face turned pale. “Dad… of course not. We would never do something like that. Do you really think so little of us?”

Alpha Magnus let out a cold snort. “Don’t blame me for thinking that way.”
