Chapter 81 The Truth Rewritten
Alpha Damian’s POV
Finalen
Ultimate Rich Society was one of the most exclusive clubs in Stonehedge. The members were almost all heirs of influential packs or CEOS with family fortunes that had been built over generations.
Ordinary wolves could only dream of stepping through its doors.
I had no interest in gatherings like this.
Unfortunately, Jake had insisted for weeks that everyone had been too busy lately, while I had eventually agreed to show up for an hour.
Ironically, he was the one who looked the most exhausted.
Dark circles sat beneath his eyes as he dropped onto the leather sofa inside my private suite before reaching for a glass of ice water.
“You have no conscience,” he muttered. “I spent the whole night at the hospital, slept for barely two hours, and somehow you still dragged me here.”
“You came willingly.”
“I came because you threatened to deduct my bonus.”
I didn’t bother correcting him.
Zenith, the heir of the Moonclaw family, lounged comfortably across from us while lazily flicking a silver lighter open and shut. Tiny flames danced between his fingers before disappearing again.
His gaze swept around the room.
“Damian,” he drawled casually, “is this gathering strictly for the boys?”
He looked genuinely puzzled. Every person sitting inside the suite was male.
More importantly… Every one of them was single.
Jake snorted. “Exactly.”
He pointed a finger at me. “Damian, clearly you don’t have a single woman buzzing around you. Next time, let me handle the guest list.”

Zenith laughed immediately. Un, come vii, jane, zvu any

Jake’s expression darkened. “Zenith. Who exactly are you mocking?”

Before either of them could continue, another friend lounging near the window spoke up. His name was Asher, heir to the Silvercrest family.
He lifted an eyebrow before saying lazily, “Looking around this room, it seems none of you actually have girlfriends except me.”
Jake scoffed. “You?”
Asher grinned proudly. “Unlike you two, I have standards.”
Zenith rolled his eyes. “You rotate girlfriends every month. That doesn’t count.”
“It absolutely counts.”
Jake folded his arms. “Arm candy isn’t a girlfriend.”
Asher looked offended. “It is if she agrees.”
The room erupted into laughter.
Zenith leaned back against the sofa before glancing toward me. “Speaking of girlfriends…”
His smile became mischievous. “Alpha Damian. Your brother just got betrothed today. So what’s with the celebration?”
Jake straightened instantly. “Betrothed? I thought today was Harold’s Lunar Rite.”
Zenith looked at him as though questioning his intelligence. “Seriously? All those years in medical school must have fried your brain. Didn’t you see what was trending online?”
He unlocked his phone before tossing it toward Jake. Jake caught it effortlessly.
The first headline filled the screen.
Forbidden Love: Virel Family Luna Swap Turns Beta’s Widow Into Betrothed.
Jake blinked. “What?”
He scrolled again.

Jake’s eyebrows climbed higher with every headline. “I can’t deny it. These reporters really know how to write clickbait.”
He shook his head. “But that Garrett family’s daughter… Her life just got a whole lot harder.”
Before Asher could finish agreeing with him, an icy silence settled across the room. Everyone instinctively turned toward me.
I slowly lifted my eyes. My gaze landed directly on Asher.
He stiffened almost immediately. “What? Why are you looking at me like that?”
The corners of my lips curved ever so slightly, but it wasn’t a smile.
It was colder than that.
“Asher.”
My voice remained calm. “Dating that socialite of yours…has it completely fried your brain?”
His mouth fell open. “What?”
I continued evenly. “Who told you Flourish got dumped? It was she who ended the betrothal.”
The room fell completely silent. Even Zenith stopped playing with his lighter.
Nobody spoke. I reached forward and nudged the nearby metal trash bin aside with the tip of my shoe before standing.
“We’re done here.” I buttoned my suit jacket. “I’m not sitting at the same table with idiots.”
Jake rubbed his forehead. “There he goes…”
Asher looked utterly confused. “What did I even say?”
Zenith burst into laughter. “You picked the wrong person to pity. You’ve got guts.”
I ignored them entirely. By the time I stepped outside Ultimate Rich Society, the cool night breeze had already chased away the faint smell of alcohol clinging to the hallway.
I pulled out my phone.
The call connected almost instantly.

“Alpha Damian.”
My assistant’s respectful voice came from the other end. His name was Nolan.
“Nolan. What’s going on with the news online? Who twisted the story this time?”
There was a brief pause, then Nolan answered carefully. “Alpha Damian… Are you referring to the articles about Alpha Harold?”
I frowned. “No. I’m asking why the media keeps claiming Flourish was abandoned. She was the one who terminated the engagement.”
A faint chill seemed to travel through the phone.
Nolan immediately understood. “Understood. I’ll contact every major outlet right away. The headlines will be corrected immediately.”
“Good.” I ended the call without another word.
Less than ten minutes later, my phone vibrated repeatedly. One notification after another appeared across the screen.
The old headlines had disappeared.
New ones replaced them almost instantly.

Another article followed.

Then another.

The narrative had shifted completely. I read through several articles before allowing the corner of my lips to lift slightly.
