I Stopped Loving Him When He Let Me Bleed Out novel Chapter 112

Lily had already added Isaac's number to her contacts, fully determined to play matchmaker between him and Sienna.

There was no way she was letting that absolute bastard Finn win!

The next morning, just as Sienna arrived at the hospital, an email notification popped up on her phone.

She opened it. Upon finishing the brief text, her grip on her phone tightened.

Isaac Holloway's promotion to Vice Director had been temporarily suspended.

She stared at the words "temporarily suspended" for a long, heavy moment.

His upcoming promotion had been widely announced, and now they were retracting it publicly. Wasn't this just humiliating him?

It was no different from a public slap in the face.

Penny Sawyer leaned in closely from out of nowhere, keeping her voice low.

"Sienna, Director Holloway must have offended someone up high. You're closely associated with him, so you're bound to take some heat too. You need to be careful."

"Get back to work, no gossiping."

Sienna brushed it off verbally, but her heart sank.

She had a sinking suspicion that Isaac was being targeted simply because he was caught in her crossfire.

She never feared malice from others, but she was terrified of receiving kindness she couldn't repay.

Dragging innocent people into her mess was her greatest agony.

After a grueling morning shift, Sienna headed to the cafeteria for lunch.

From a distance, she spotted Isaac sitting alone in a corner, his food barely touched.

She carried her tray over and sat down directly across from him.

Isaac looked up, offering a faint smile when he saw her.

"Dr. Sterling."

Sienna didn't beat around the bush.

"Isaac, the email about your promotion. Was that because of me?"

"No," Isaac replied, putting down his fork. "You're overthinking it."

"Then what is it? You're an exceptional doctor, why would the hospital do this to you? The only reason I can think of is that you've stuck your neck out for me one too many times."

Isaac remained silent for a few seconds before answering.

"The administration put me in charge of a promotional project, and I hit a roadblock. The higher-ups aren't happy, so they're using it against me."

"What kind of project?"

"The hospital wants to put up an art mural, and they specifically want works from a renowned artist. I've contacted a few people, but none of them fit the bill. The budget is too tight, and the styles clash..." He paused and offered a small smile. "It's fine. I'm not that fragile. I won't be taken down so easily. Don't worry about me."

Sienna didn't say anything back.

She looked down and took a few bites, her mind racing.

Renowned artists.

Lily sent her a message, linking an article.

She clicked it open. It was about Paxton.

[Rising artist Paxton Zane faces massive financial penalties following the failure of his national tour. He has officially severed ties with his management and agency, incurring catastrophic losses.]

Lily had texted:

[Serves him right! That's what he gets for being friends with someone like Chloe and actually believing her lies. Karma!]

Sienna read it over and set her phone aside.

It was none of her business.

Her phone rang again.

It was the unknown number calling her.

She answered it.

"Dr. Sterling, please don't hang up. I just need to say one thing."

It was Paxton's voice.

Sienna frowned. "Stop harassing me, or I'm calling the police!"

"Dr. Sterling, I'm at your hospital right now. I heard the administration is looking to commission a mural. I fit the criteria perfectly. I'll do it."

Sienna's thumb, hovering over the end-call button, froze.
