By the time Finn found the abandoned building, the sky hadn't even begun to lighten.
In this desolate area, only a single window on the second floor emitted a faint glow.
A black sedan with no license plates was parked near the entrance.
He pressed his hand against the hood; the engine was still radiating heat.
He sprinted toward the entrance.
The first floor was completely deserted, but rolls of gauze and medical tape lay scattered across the base of the stairs.
He snatched up a piece of the gauze, crushing it in his fist.
His heart was hammering violently against his ribs, his fingers trembling with raw adrenaline.
He took the stairs two at a time and spotted a single illuminated office.
He practically kicked the door open.
Sienna!
She was actually here!
Right now, she was collapsed on the floor, curled tightly in a corner.
Finn rushed over to her, his hands frantically checking her over. Thank God, she wasn't bleeding.
But her face was flushed—an alarmingly unnatural, feverish red.
Sweat completely coated her forehead, plastering her hair to her cheeks.
She lay curled in a ball, her fingernails scraping desperately against the concrete floor until her knuckles turned white.
Finn dropped to his knees, calling her name frantically.
She pried her eyes open, her gaze incredibly hazy, taking several agonizing seconds to finally focus on his face.
She reached out to push him away, but her strength was nonexistent. Her palm landed flat against his chest, soft and weak.
"Don't... don't... touch me."
Sienna's voice carried a sickeningly sweet, almost pleadingly seductive tone.
Finn instantly realized what was happening:
"Did they drug you?"
He clamped his hand around her wrist and pulled her upright.
Her skin was burning hot, radiating a feverish heat that he could feel even through her clothes.
Sienna violently wrenched her hand away and stumbled to her feet, swaying dangerously before collapsing back down.
"Don't look at me." She buried her flushed face into her knees, her voice quivering uncontrollably. "Leave."
"How am I supposed to leave you like this?"
"Get away from me!"
Finn crouched back down, consciously keeping his hands to himself.
He just watched her in tense, agonizing silence.
Sienna kept her head buried, her slender shoulders trembling wildly.
She desperately wanted to stand up, but her legs were like jelly.
She absolutely refused to let Finn see her in this humiliating state.
Her mind was a chaotic, swirling mess, flashing memories relentlessly across her vision.
And every single one of them starred Finn.
Finn immediately clamped his mouth shut.
Sienna buried her face back into her knees.
She had accused him of trying to take advantage of her, but deep down, she knew he hadn't done a single inappropriate thing.
From the moment he burst through the door, he hadn't touched her inappropriately.
It was her own traitorous mind.
Her head was completely filled with images of him.
The way he looked stepping out of the shower with damp hair, the way he would blindly reach out to pull her close before he even opened his eyes in the morning...
She had repressed these agonizingly beautiful memories for years, convincing herself she no longer loved him.
But now, under the terrifying influence of the drug, all her defenses were crumbling into dust.
"Let's get out of here first, okay?"
Finn's tone was incredibly gentle, coaxing her like she was fragile glass.
Sienna gave a jerky nod, biting down hard on her lower lip as she braced herself against the wall to stand.
Finn leaned his solid body closer, offering himself as a crutch as he wrapped an arm around her and guided her toward the door.
Sienna's body was as pliable as water, practically melting into him. She buried her burning face into the crook of his neck, her breaths scalding and erratic against his skin.
Her eyes were half-lidded, her eyelashes fluttering against his throat as she mumbled incoherent, delirious words.
Suddenly, heavy footsteps echoed from the stairs below.
Two sets of boots thudding against concrete, fast and furious.
Finn's predatory instincts instantly flared. He swiftly shoved Sienna into the shadowy corner of the stairwell, pinning her securely against the wall.
