He even went out of his way to carefully arrange Sienna's silverware.
"Eat up."
Once he finished setting the table, he grabbed his phone, glanced at the glowing screen, and his brows instantly slammed together.
"I need to step out to take a call."
Without waiting for an answer, he turned and marched out the door.
Sienna hesitated for a fraction of a second before slipping out of bed and quietly trailing after him.
Finn headed straight for the stairwell at the far end of the corridor.
The heavy fire door was left slightly ajar.
Driven by an urge she couldn't explain, Sienna crept closer, pressing her back flat against the wall. Through the narrow crack, she could hear Finn's low, dangerous voice echoing in the stairwell.
"You don't need to hold anything back. I only want one thing—I want the absolute truth."
"They put their hands on Sienna, and that is a line they don't get to cross. I don't care if I have to rip this city apart; I want them found!"
Sienna's heart seized violently in her chest.
Her mind was an absolute hurricane of emotion.
She had just barely managed to tape her shattered defenses back together; she absolutely refused to break down in front of him again.
A vicious voice in the back of her head screamed at her—why would Finn actually care about her?
If he truly cared, he wouldn't have ruthlessly destroyed her four years ago.
It's a lie. It's all just a pathetic lie.
Right at that moment, the heavy stairwell door was violently shoved open from the inside.
Sienna gasped, jerking back in sheer panic.
"What are you doing out of bed?" Finn demanded, completely shocked to see her standing there.
"I..." Sienna was utterly humiliated.
"You were eavesdropping on my call," his voice dropped to a low, intense register.
"I was not."
"Then what exactly are you doing standing in a hallway?"
"Getting some fresh air."
Completely out of excuses, she resorted to blatantly lying to his face.
She began to silently back away, desperate to escape.
But Finn reached out and clamped a hand securely around her wrist.
"I want you to drop everything else," he commanded. "I'm booking us a flight back stateside tomorrow. It's not safe here. I've already cleared it with your hospital. You're going home to recover, and I will personally handle everything else."
Sienna's entire body went rigid.
A second later, she viciously ripped her arm from his grip.
"What gives you the right to control my life?"
She bit down hard on her lower lip, fighting a losing battle against the sob building in her throat.
She hated him so deeply. She hated that he had forced the truth out into the open, hated that the second she finally managed to rebuild her armor, he was viciously tearing it apart all over again.
"Shut up!" she screamed, the tears finally spilling over her lashes.
She had yelled so aggressively, riding such an overwhelming spike of adrenaline, that the world violently spun. Black spots danced across her vision, and her knees buckled.
Finn immediately reached out and caught her. Drained of all her strength, she had no choice but to collapse against his solid chest.
Her cheek pressed against his shirt, and the frantic, thunderous pounding of his heart echoed in her ear.
It was racing, beating as wildly as a war drum.
She sobbed hysterically into his shirt, her tears soaking through the fabric. He wrapped a strong hand around the back of her head, completely enveloping her in his embrace.
"Let me go," she cried, her voice muffled against his chest. She tried to thrash against him, but her body completely betrayed her.
Instead of letting go, Finn only tightened his punishing grip around her.
"Finn, what the hell do you want from me? Why are you trying to humiliate me like this?"
"Humiliate you? Why would you even say that?" Finn asked, sounding completely shattered as he looked down at her.
Sienna bit her lip and tilted her head up, locking eyes with Finn. For a fleeting second, she could have sworn she saw genuine agony swirling in his dark gaze.
Her tears flowed completely unchecked:
"Finn, the day you dumped me four years ago, we were completely dead to each other. You destroyed my life. For the rest of my life, I can only ever see you as my worst enemy!"
