I Stopped Loving Him When He Let Me Bleed Out novel Chapter 139

Sienna nearly jumped out of her skin, her eyes flying wide open before she frantically clamped them shut again.

Finn stood right next to the bed, holding the glass of water, gazing down at her.

A faint smirk played on his lips.

Realizing that pretending was only making things infinitely more mortifying, Sienna simply opened her eyes and put on a brave face.

"I wasn't spying on you," she lied defensively.

"I never said you were spying on me. I just said your incredibly long eyelashes were twitching like crazy."

Sienna was completely speechless.

She stared at the glass of water Finn was holding out to her. After a brief moment of hesitation, she took it.

She was actually incredibly parched.

She took a sip; it was perfectly warm.

Clutching the glass tightly, she racked her brain for something, anything, to say.

"Yesterday, you..." Finn finally broke the silence.

"What about yesterday?" she instantly cut him off. "I don't remember a single thing."

Her defensive reaction was far too aggressive.

The second the words left her mouth, she instantly regretted them.

Finn stared down at her, a faint, knowing amusement swirling in his dark eyes.

His voice was incredibly gentle, like he was coaxing a skittish child:

"I was just going to tell you that I checked you out of your old hotel and booked you a room somewhere much safer. The doctors here said there's no specific antidote for whatever they dosed you with; they can only run IV fluids to help flush it out. You've been knocked out for over ten hours, so the drug is mostly out of your system, but your body is still dangerously weak. They recommend keeping you under observation for at least twenty-four hours."

Sienna finally understood.

She didn't say another word, simply lowering her head to intensely study her own hands.

Finn pulled out his phone and walked over to the window, clearly texting someone.

The hospital room fell into a deafening silence, so quiet they could hear each other breathe.

Sienna looked up, her gaze tracing the broad lines of Finn's back before locking onto his heavily bandaged left arm.

After agonizing over it for far too long, she finally forced herself to speak:

"Did you get your bandages changed?"

Finn turned around, a flicker of genuine surprise crossing his features:

"I did."

Feeling like it was now or never, Sienna swallowed her pride and gathered her courage:

"Thank you for saving my life."

Getting the words out felt like lifting a massive boulder off her chest.

Finn watched her, a brilliant light igniting in his eyes.

This was the very first time since their disastrous reunion that Sienna had actually spoken to him civilly while completely sober.

It was a devastatingly rare moment.

Finn was so overwhelmed with emotion he could barely process it.

But less than a second later, she ruthlessly dumped a bucket of ice water over his head.

Finn had clearly understood the doctor's explanation as well. He let out two awkward coughs and turned his head, aggressively pretending to find the view out the window absolutely fascinating.

The silence between them was completely unbearable.

The doctor finally left.

The room descended into an awkward, suffocating quiet.

"I'm going to grab you some lunch."

Finn announced abruptly before practically bolting from the room.

Sienna finally let out a massive sigh of relief, but the moment she relaxed, the screen of Finn's phone—which he had left on the bedside table—lit up right in front of her face.

He had left it behind.

The screen flashed again, previewing a new text message.

Sienna truly didn't mean to snoop, but her eyes zeroed in on the notification before she could stop herself.

[I've got news on Dudley and those two thugs you asked me to look into. Call me when you can.]

Her fingers instinctively dug into the sterile white sheets.

So Finn was already hunting them down.

And he hadn't breathed a word of it to her.

A short while later, Finn returned.

Sienna quickly averted her eyes, pretending she hadn't seen a thing.

Finn set up the overbed table, popped open the takeout containers one by one, and even produced a bottle of Coke he had managed to scrounge up from somewhere.
