A piercing honk suddenly echoed from outside the car window.
A reversing truck released its air brakes with a loud hiss, completely drowning out Isaac's words.
Sienna frowned slightly. Once the truck had passed, she turned back to Isaac, her face a mask of confusion.
"Director Holloway, what did you just say?"
Isaac's grip tightened on the steering wheel, his Adam's apple bobbing.
"Nothing."
He quickly averted his gaze, staring out the windshield at the overcast sky.
Courage only came around once.
Trying to speak up again would be nearly impossible.
The tension in the car dissipated, like a taut string suddenly snapping loose.
Sienna turned her head back to the front. A fleeting panic flashed in her eyes, but internally, she breathed a sigh of relief.
The truth was, she had heard him.
But she simply couldn't face it.
She had never thought of Isaac in that way.
He came from a good family, was highly educated, refined, and above all, he was her superior.
He might have been a great catch, but he was Finn's best friend.
For that reason alone, she would never even entertain the idea.
At seven o'clock that evening, they arrived at The Skyview Grill.
The sprawling terrace was surrounded by lush greenery. Vines cascaded from overhead trellises, swaying gently in the evening breeze.
Warm, golden string lights draped above them, casting a soft glow over the tables lined up along the railing.
The city stretched out below them, a sea of glittering lights and endless streams of traffic.
Paxton had reserved the innermost table by the edge, boasting the best view in the house.
Sienna and Isaac were the first to arrive.
Isaac pulled out a chair with practiced chivalry, gesturing for her to sit.
Sienna murmured a quiet "thank you." But the moment she took her seat, Isaac sat down right next to her.
The table was plenty big, with so many other empty chairs available.
Yet he had deliberately chosen the spot right beside her.
