Sienna managed to track down Arthur's new address. She bought a basket of fruit, withdrew a few thousand dollars from the bank, stuffed the cash into an envelope, and brought it all with her.
Arthur looked stunned when he opened the door. A brief flicker of light crossed his clouded eyes before they quickly dimmed again.
"Come in," he said, stepping aside.
"Let me help you tidy up, Arthur." Sienna walked inside, set the fruit on the table, and pulled the envelope from her bag. "Here, Arthur. Take this."
Arthur shook his head.
"I don't want it."
Sienna remained resolute.
"Please take it. I won't be able to live with myself otherwise."
Arthur looked at her and let out a heavy sigh.
"What do you have to feel guilty about? None of this is your fault. If Quincy hadn't broken the law, no one would have taken him away. I talked to him. He was doing a job for someone, a job that nearly got you killed. Thank goodness you were smart enough to defend yourself, or you would have been the one suffering in silence."
He paused.
"I used to work for the Fletchers. I know the sheer courage it takes to go up against a family like that. It's just a shame. Because of this, any chance between you and Finn is gone forever. You two really are a star-crossed pair."
Sienna said nothing, simply keeping her head down as she wiped the table.
A knock echoed from the door.
Sienna's hand froze.
Arthur went to answer it.
Finn Fletcher stood in the doorway, gripping two gift boxes in his hands.
When he saw Sienna, his entire body went rigid.
Sienna straightened up and grabbed her bag.
"I should get going, Arthur."
Before Arthur could say a word, Sienna was already at the door, brushing past Finn.
"Stop," Finn's voice rang out from behind her.
She halted, her heart seizing violently in her chest.
Finn's tone was hostile, a sharp edge she had never heard him use on her before.
