Isaac called three times in a row, but no one answered.
"What is going on?" he asked.
"On my way back, there was a fatal crash on the highway. A Bentley with Metropolis plates. A young male driver, dead on the scene."
Shock washed over Isaac's face.
"You think it was Finn?"
Sienna didn't answer. She just looked up at him, hiding her trembling hands behind her back, her fingers curled tightly into fists so he wouldn't see.
Isaac spoke up, trying to stay rational.
"I have a contact in the traffic division. I'll make a call and find out."
He gave her a steady look.
"Panic makes people jump to conclusions. Just based on those details, it's not guaranteed to be him."
Sienna nodded numbly and sank onto the bench.
Jumping to conclusions?
She didn't know anymore.
All she knew was that the horrifying stain of blood on the asphalt was burned into her brain, and she couldn't wash it away.
Isaac stepped aside to make the call.
At the same time, Lily answered her phone, and the color instantly drained from her face.
"On what grounds?! You can't just cancel it like that! Why does Angeline get it? I absolutely do not accept this!"
She hung up, her face flushed red with fury as she stomped over.
"The department just revoked my new title! I fought tooth and nail for it, and it was finally my turn... and they gave the promotion to that new instructor! That Angeline woman who came out of nowhere!"
"No way. I'm going back to the academy right now to give them a piece of my mind!"
"I'll go with you," Sienna said, standing up.
Lily forcefully pushed her back down onto the bench.
"Don't you dare. You've been running yourself ragged all night. Go home and get some sleep. Trust me, I have more than enough firepower to handle this on my own."
Sienna tried to argue, but Isaac had already returned from his call.
His expression was grim as he looked at her.
"The body was already transported, so the identity isn't officially confirmed yet. But they ran the plates. The car is registered to The Fletcher Group..."
Sienna collapsed back into the chair.
Lily, catching the end of the conversation, gasped.
"Wait, who died?"
Isaac kept his eyes fixed on Sienna.
"This still doesn't prove it's Finn. We need to stay hopeful."
"Finn died in a car crash?!" Lily shrieked.
Sienna's eyelids fluttered, her fists clenched so tightly her knuckles ached, yet she still couldn't stop the violent tremors shaking her hands.
Lily instantly realized she had crossed a line and dropped down to wrap her arms tightly around Sienna.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it like that. I know Finn was a mess of problems, but he didn't deserve to die..."
Isaac cut off Lily's panicked rambling.
