I Stopped Loving Him When He Let Me Bleed Out novel Chapter 259

"Finn."

"Everything you've done lately—it's all just a desperate attempt to get us back together. Do you really think that's possible?"

Finn stared at her.

His throat worked convulsively. When he spoke, his voice was painfully raw.

"It's possible if you want it to be."

Sienna let out a faint, hollow laugh.

"And what about your family? They despised me four years ago, and they would violently object to me now. Plus, there's York. From where I'm standing, your life revolves around him. And I am explicitly telling you, I cannot accept him."

"He is Ford's son. I am only his uncle." Finn's voice stabilized slightly. "I will fulfill my duty as his uncle, but I won't overstep my boundaries."

"I sent your mother to prison."

"You didn't put her there." Finn's voice roughened even more. "She put herself there when she broke the law."

Sienna fell silent.

She looked down at her wrist.

The scar was still there. The vicious red color had faded over the years, but the raised, jagged tissue remained—a permanent deformity.

She held her wrist up, showing it directly to Finn.

"Our relationship is exactly like this scar. The bleeding stopped, but the mark is permanent. I cannot lie to myself and pretend that the past is the past. Because it's not. I cannot get over it."

Finn stared at the pale ridge of flesh for a long time.

He took a step forward, a desperate urge to reach out warring with the crushing realization that he had no right to touch her. His hand fell uselessly back to his side.

Sienna took a deep breath, deliberately slowing her racing heart.

"I am twenty-nine years old. It took everything I had to claw my way out of the darkness you left me in. I want to get married. I want to have children. I have the normal desires any woman has."

She looked him dead in the eyes.

"But if the person standing next to me is you, I won't have any hope for the future. Because I would wake up every single day terrified that you might suddenly abandon me again over some new, unfathomable reason."

All the color instantly drained from Finn's face. It was as if someone had violently shoved him off a cliff.

He was plummeting toward the ground, waiting to be shattered.

He wanted to scream that he would never do it again. Never.
