I Stopped Loving Him When He Let Me Bleed Out novel Chapter 258

Lily remained entirely unrepentant.

"I'm off the clock. I can say whatever I want."

Sienna didn't respond.

The fireworks raged on, layer after layer of brilliant color making it seem as though the night sky itself had caught fire.

Lily crossed her arms, staring up at the spectacle. She clicked her tongue approvingly.

"Rich people really know how to show off."

As she spoke, she threw a deliberate sideways glance at Finn, then let her eyes drop to the crumpled paper bag sitting next to Sienna.

A spark of fresh irritation flared in her chest.

Her mouth moved faster than her brain.

"I guess there are levels to being rich. Mr. Hayes casually drops millions on a grand gesture. Meanwhile, some people bring cheap street food and think they've done something impressive."

Isaac hurriedly grabbed the hem of her jacket, signaling her to stop.

But Lily's mind flashed back to the day Finn had broken Sienna's heart. The memory of Sienna in the hospital, her wrist slashed, barely clinging to life, still made Lily sick to her stomach.

She had stayed by Sienna's side through that entire nightmare.

No one knew better than Lily the sheer agony Sienna had endured, or how many tears she had shed.

In Lily's eyes, refraining from cursing Finn out directly was already showing him far too much mercy.

Finn remained silent, his expression perfectly composed.

Her biting words landed softly against him, leaving no mark.

He didn't care how the rest of the world viewed him or what insults they hurled at him. He only cared about Sienna.

Listening to Lily's sharp reprimands, Sienna felt a tightening in her chest.

She knew Lily was just trying to protect her.

She couldn't bring herself to shut her best friend down, but simultaneously, she couldn't stand seeing Finn publicly humiliated.

Lowering her head, she reached out and pulled the paper bag toward her. She undid the string.

The heavy paper crinkled loudly in the quiet space between them.

Above them, the fireworks show was still blazing.

But Sienna had entirely lost her appetite for the view.

With everyone on the terrace captivated by the sky, no one paid attention to the subtle rustling sounds at their table.

She picked up a piece of the Honeyed Shortbread and took a bite.

"Lily," she called out softly.

Lily turned her head.

Sienna pushed the open bag across the table.

"It's really good. You should try a piece. It's a specialty from my hometown."

Lily paused, staring down at the pastry.

The sweet, nostalgic scent drifted up between them.

It really was the exact treat Sienna used to obsess over back in college.

In that instant, Lily understood exactly what Sienna was doing.

The blazing fire of her anger was instantly extinguished.
