Silas leaned back in his chair, waiting for him to continue.
"The way she handled Maya today was precise and calculated. She knew you were watching, and she knew exactly how to make you see her high value," Henry paused. "That's not an insult; it's a genuine skill. She knows exactly what she's doing."
Silas's finger tapped lightly against the armrest.
"You were right, Boss. She really made me look at her differently today," Henry said. "That's why she won't leave you. When she mentioned the multi-center research being exhausting, her meaning was crystal clear. She doesn't want to do the heavy lifting, but she wants the credit."
Silas picked up the coffee on his desk and took a sip.
"I figured as much," he set the cup down. "Since I decided to give her those resources, I won't take them back so easily. Have someone else take over the project's follow-up, but make sure she's the lead author on the final publication. Give her all the accolades. You handle it."
Henry nodded.
"I'll get right on it."
He turned to leave, but as he reached the door, Silas called out to him.
"Henry."
He stopped and turned around.
"Caspar was with me for three years. He knew me better than you do," Silas said, his tone flat. "But he made one mistake. He mistook his own judgment for mine. Do not make the same mistake."
Henry's spine stiffened for a second.
"Understood."

At Mercy International, in Sienna's office.
She had just changed into her white coat when there was a knock at the door.
Felicia stood in the doorway. She looked terrible—her lips were entirely devoid of color, and dark circles bruised the skin under her eyes, making her look as though she hadn't slept at all.
"Sienna, do you have a minute?"
Sienna stood up.
"What's wrong?"
