Finn paused for a moment, then pulled the car door open.
"Are you still staying at The Celestial Heights?"
Maeve nodded. "Yes."
Listening to their exchange, Sienna felt a wave of shock.
Since when had they become so familiar with each other?
They got into the car.
Finn was driving.
Sienna sat in the passenger seat.
Maeve sat by herself in the back.
The conversation revolved around the zoning plans for The Westside Project.
Finn occasionally chimed in, his tone neither overly eager nor cold, keeping things very natural.
Sienna didn't say a word.
Leaning back in her seat, she listened to Maeve's voice from the back row, her mind preoccupied with another matter.
The Celestial Heights was one of the top ten luxury properties in the city, easily costing thousands of dollars a square foot.
Was it Maeve's apartment?
Sienna couldn't help but wonder—what exactly was Maeve's endgame in sending her to the old Vance estate?
Knowing Maeve's methods, it absolutely couldn't have been a pointless errand.
"Sienna," Maeve suddenly called her name. "I heard you're taking the civil service exam. The written portion just wrapped up. Are you confident?"
Sienna glanced at her through the rearview mirror. Maeve was certainly well-informed.
"I did alright. Thanks for asking."
"If you pass, you'll be an asset to Finn. You'd finally be considered a worthy match for him."
Sienna frowned. The remark was incredibly abrasive.
Finn was the first to speak up.
"Whether she passes or not, she's perfect to me. I don't need her to be an asset. As long as she's happy, that's all that matters."
Maeve let out a soft laugh.
"What did I even say? Look how defensive you get."
She turned her attention back to Sienna. "The interview is much harder than the written test. It's a structured interview. You need to prep in advance—question banks, mock trials, etiquette. You have to be ready."
Sienna didn't respond.
She was already annoyed, and the only reason she hadn't lashed out was to leave some room for civility.
