But on second thought, she reconsidered.
Why obsess over the process as long as the outcome was beneficial?
She reached out, picked up the card, and gripped it tightly in her palm.
"Alright. Since you're willingly providing the funds, I'll do you this favor. But please remember, I am helping you."
Maeve offered a faint smile.
"You're certainly no pushover, either."
Sienna met her gaze. "Likewise."
Maeve shook her head, her voice carrying an indescribable nuance.
"You're just as calculating as I am. I really don't know why Finn likes you so much."
Finn happened to walk out of the kitchen at that exact moment, holding a plate of washed vegetables, and caught the tail end of her sentence.
He glanced at Sienna's face, then at Maeve. Pausing his actions, his expression darkened.
"What did you just say, Ms. Thorne?"
There was no outright hostility in his tone, but the barrier he threw up was unmistakable.
Maeve's smile remained, but it faltered for a fraction of a second.
Finn set the vegetables down on the table and walked over to Sienna.
"Ms. Thorne, I don't believe you're showing my girlfriend the proper respect. Given that, I see no reason to stay for dinner."
He reached out and picked up Sienna's purse from the sofa, his voice light but crystal clear.
"If there are any work-related matters to discuss, you can coordinate with Terrence Tate."
He took Sienna's hand.
"We're leaving."
Sienna stood up, the bank card still clutched in her hand.
She didn't spare Maeve another glance.
As the two of them walked toward the door, Maeve remained seated on the sofa, uttering not a single word.
During the elevator ride down, Finn wrapped an arm around Sienna's waist, looking down to check her expression.
"You aren't mad, are you?"
Sienna shook her head.
"No. I was the one who wanted to come up in the first place. Besides, that's just how her personality is. She doesn't know how to say anything pleasant."
"You know her well?" Finn asked.
Sienna looked into Finn's deep, expressive eyes and felt another pang of guilt.
She really hated this feeling.
Testing the waters, she spoke up.
"I know a little more about her than you do. Do you want to know? If you ask, I'll tell you."
