That night, Sienna lay in bed, drifting in a light sleep. She felt a shift on the mattress beside her.
It had to be Finn.
He didn't turn on the light. His movements were incredibly soft, clearly trying not to wake her.
Sienna kept her eyes closed and remained completely still. She had grown accustomed to his recent late-night routine.
She felt Finn pull the covers back over her shoulders, his hand naturally coming to rest on her waist.
Even through the blanket, she could feel the heat radiating from his palm.
Not a word was spoken all night.
The next morning, when Sienna woke up, Finn was still asleep.
A sliver of sunlight slipped through the curtains and fell across the side of his face.
She leaned in for a closer look. She didn't know if her mind was playing tricks on her, but it seemed like his skin was slightly more tanned than before.
It was late autumn, and the sun in Metropolis was hardly strong enough for a tan. He took a chauffeured car to the office every day, practically living entirely indoors.
She watched him for a few seconds. She didn't wake him. Just as she was about to pull away, his eyes fluttered open.
"Why are you up so early?" he mumbled, his voice thick with sleep as he reached out to pull her in.
Sienna let herself be tugged into his arms, but instead of snuggling against him like she normally would, her body went slightly rigid.
He noticed it immediately.
"What's wrong?"
"You've been really busy lately." Her tone was completely flat, devoid of any readable emotion.
Finn's hand paused against her back for a split second.
"Yeah, things have been crazy at the company."
"Are you heading into the office today?"
"Yeah, going in today too."
Sienna pushed herself up from his embrace, turning her back to him.
"Then go ahead. I have plans today anyway."
"Are you meeting up with Lily?" he asked from behind her.
"No." She stood up and started changing her clothes. "I saw Lily yesterday. I already told you that. You forgot."
