Sienna walked inside.
Finn didn't even react.
Sienna's heart sank. She stepped closer, crouching down in front of him, and tilted her head up to look into his eyes.
He had lost so much weight.
His cheekbones were sharp and pronounced, his jawline drawn terrifyingly tight, and his lips were dry and cracked. There were dark, ashen shadows beneath his eyes, suggesting he hadn't slept in days.
But his eyes were the same shape she knew so well, his dark pupils staring blankly at her.
"Finn," she called his name softly.
His gaze shifted from the floor and landed on her face.
He stared at her for a moment, as if trying to process a piece of data.
Then he spoke, his voice ragged, though every syllable was perfectly enunciated:
"Sienna Sterling."
Thank God! He didn't have amnesia!
He recognized her.
Sienna's heart was squeezed mercilessly, pounding frantically in her chest.
Looking at him, she could no longer hold back her emotions.
She reached out, wanting to pull him into a desperate hug.
But Finn instinctively flinched away.
His reaction left Sienna frozen in place.
He was pulling away?
"What's wrong?"
Sienna asked, searching his eyes.
Finn's gaze was disturbingly flat.
It was even bordering on cold.
So cold it made her chest ache.
There was no warmth in those eyes, no relief, no joy of a reunion.
He looked at her the way one might look at an item that needed to be categorized and filed away.
He had successfully processed the data "Sienna Sterling," but he had no idea what to do with that information.
