I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 117

Even though the voice was hushed, the reception area was small, and Bonnie heard every single word.

Seraphina let out a deliberate sigh, putting on a conflicted expression while making sure her voice carried perfectly.

"Let's skip it. It's not that I don't want her there, but the resort is my boyfriend's private venue, and the crowd is going to be incredibly exclusive. I'd hate for her to feel out of place and uncomfortable."

She paused, adding another layer of thinly veiled superiority.

"My boyfriend is covering everything—food, drinks, and accommodations. It's just my little way of celebrating the promotion. Now that I'm an official physician, it's important I bond with everyone properly."

Every word felt like a tiny, calculated blade aimed straight at Bonnie's pride.

Seraphina was flaunting her status, her wealthy boyfriend, and her access to an elite circle that ordinary people could only dream of.

And in her eyes, Bonnie was nothing but an uncredentialed receptionist, a nobody.

The staff cast subtle, sidelong glances at Bonnie, expecting to see her humiliated, consumed by jealousy, or crumbling under the embarrassment.

But Bonnie didn't even look up.

She calmly filed away the final medical chart. Noticing Caleb's worried expression, she offered a relaxed, indifferent smile.

"Don't worry about me. I already have plans for the weekend anyway."

Right on cue, the clock struck the end of her shift.

Bonnie smoothly took off her uniform, slung her canvas tote over her shoulder, and didn't spare Seraphina a single glance.

"I'm heading out. Have a great time this weekend, everyone."

She gave a casual wave and walked briskly out of the lobby, her steps light and unbothered.

There was no embarrassment, no bitterness, and certainly none of the crushing inferiority Seraphina had desperately hoped to see.

It was as if she had just listened to the weather report, brushed off her shoulders, and walked away completely unaffected.

Watching Bonnie's slender, confident silhouette vanish into the elevator, Seraphina's smile stiffened.

She convinced herself Bonnie was faking it, clinging desperately to her last shred of dignity.
