I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 133

Quentin kept his hands on the steering wheel, his gaze fixed straight ahead, but his voice dropped low. "Call me Quentin from now on."

Bonnie wondered if she was hallucinating. "Huh?"

Quentin's eyelashes fluttered slightly, his tone dropping even deeper. "I like hearing you call me that."

Bonnie's heart skipped a heavy beat.

She looked up at the car ceiling in a panic, then down at the dashboard and the center console.

A dozen conspiracy theories flashed through her mind in an instant.

Was the car bugged? Were the Vance family elders spying on him? Was that why he was suddenly forcing this act?

But after scanning the interior, she couldn't find anything out of the ordinary.

"What is it?"

Noticing her frantic behavior, Quentin tilted his head slightly.

Bonnie laughed awkwardly. "It's nothing... It's just, if I call you that in private too, wouldn't it be crossing a line?"

As the words left her mouth, Quentin's expression instantly froze, his thin lips pressing into a hard line.

Bonnie immediately realized her mistake. The boss makes the rules, and questioning him like that was the real overstep.

She tentatively tested the waters, her voice soft and sheepish. "Quentin?"

It came out sweet, laced with an attempt to appease him and a hint of guilt.

Hearing his name from her lips seemed to soften the tight line of Quentin's jaw.

His fingers tightened slightly around the steering wheel. He stayed silent for a moment before speaking. "Before my mother passed away, she used to call me that."

His voice was incredibly low, carrying a faint, almost imperceptible trace of loneliness.

For years, no one but his mother had ever addressed him with such familiarity.

Except for her. Back at the Vance estate, she had looked up at him with those bright, shining eyes and crisply called him 'Quentin'.

In that moment, he had been genuinely taken aback.

Listening to him, Bonnie felt a subtle tremor in her chest.

So that was why.

It had scared her to death; she really thought he had lost his mind for a second.
