I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 138

He stared at her for a long moment before his lips suddenly curled up into a cold, hollow sneer.

The smile didn't reach his eyes; it carried a chilling, terrifying bite.

He didn't even bother answering her question. He simply stood up and strode out of the room on his long legs.

"I'm heading back. Return when you're done here."

Dropping that icy sentence, his silhouette quickly disappeared through the showroom doors.

Bonnie sat there, completely baffled.

Everything had been going perfectly. Why was the boss suddenly angry again?

She just asked a practical question about the car's ownership. How did that manage to hit a nerve?

Was it getting returned or not? He could have at least given her a straight answer.

Bonnie let out a sigh, grabbed the new car keys off the table, dropped them into her bag, and fired off a text to Jasper Ford.

[Jasper, I wanted to ask: when a company car is assigned by the boss, does it need to be returned after the three-year contract ends?]

Less than two minutes after she hit send, Jasper called her right away.

Through the speaker, Jasper's voice dripped with absolute shock, carrying a rare hint of scandalous gossip.

"Ms. Hayes, what did you just say? Mr. Vance personally took you to pick out a car?"

Bonnie frowned in confusion. "Yeah, why? Isn't the car you drive provided by him too?"

Jasper let out a dry, awkward chuckle on the other end.

His car was standard corporate issue, and more importantly... Mr. Vance had never, in his life, personally taken an employee to a dealership.

He didn't explain. Instead, he asked pointedly, "Haven't you noticed that Mr. Vance treats you differently?"

Bonnie tilted her head, thinking about it blankly. "Does he? I mean, I think he treats his employees exceptionally well. High salary, luxury cars. Jasper, are your benefits really this good too?"

Jasper let out another dry laugh. "You should swing by headquarters sometime and see if everyone else gets these kinds of 'benefits.'"

Her curiosity piqued, Bonnie lowered her voice and asked, "By the way, Jasper, what exactly does Mr. Vance do? He feels incredibly wealthy, but he stays completely under the radar."

"Ah, that. You'll find out eventually."

Jasper brushed off the question, clearly having no intention of elaborating.

Bonnie didn't push it, pivoting back to the main issue. "So, when we divorce in three years, do I have to give the car back?"
