I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 139

Hearing the name "Parrish," Bonnie's fingers tightened involuntarily around the steering wheel.

She fell silent, entirely unsure of how to answer.

Jillian interpreted her silence as guilt, her tone growing even heavier.

"Bonnie, I've had a feeling something was wrong between you two lately. Did you have another fight?"

"I called Parrish the day before yesterday, and he told me I should ask you."

"It hasn't been easy for Parrish. His injuries were so severe back then, he barely survived. To this day, he still has a blood clot in his brain and suffers from terrible lingering trauma. He can't handle physical labor, and he doesn't make as much money as you. If you love him, you need to share his burden. Don't let him shoulder everything alone and get so exhausted."

Bonnie kept her voice icy calm. "Mom, what else did he say to you?"

Jillian sighed in distress. "He said he's been exhausted lately, and that you don't understand him at all. He even said... you've been causing his severe insomnia."

Bonnie let out a dry, furious laugh.

His insomnia had absolutely nothing to do with her!

What gave him the right to spew such garbage to her mother?!

"Bonnie, tell me the truth. Are you ignoring him because he went back to Blackwood Village and took your grandfather's medical journals without asking?"

Jillian's anxious voice pushed through the speaker:

"You have a comfortable job now that covers your housing and food, and your boss even gave you a car. But Parrish is still stuck in that tiny apartment. With his brain trauma, regular companies refuse to hire him, so he had to start his own business. He probably took the journals to help his startup, and he kept it a secret because he was terrified you'd get angry. You—"

"Mom!"

Bonnie finally couldn't take it anymore and snapped.

"Stop worrying about us. Your health is the only thing that matters right now. I'll explain everything to you when I have time, but I'm driving right now and I have another call coming in. I have to go."

Without waiting for Jillian's reaction, she immediately ended the call.

Bonnie slammed her foot on the brakes, pulling the Wrangler sharply over to the side of the road.

Summer in Harlow City meant the evening air was as suffocating as a giant sauna.
