Seraphina gritted her teeth and tapped into the messages. Seeing it was from Bonnie, a dark, vindictive gleam flashed across her eyes.
Stop provoking her mother?
A malicious thought struck her. She began swiping through the contacts.
Quickly, she found a number saved simply as "Auntie."
Clutching the phone, her heels clicking sharply against the floor, Seraphina marched toward the secluded fire escape at the end of the hall.
She hit dial.
The phone rang barely twice before it was picked up.
Through the speaker, Jillian's frantic, innocent voice immediately came through.
"Parrish? What on earth is going on between you and Bonnie..."
"Bonnie's sickly mother, I presume?"
Seraphina cut her off instantly, her voice high-pitched and dripping with venom, echoing eerily in the empty stairwell.
The line went dead silent.
It took several seconds before a panicked Jillian finally responded. "Who are you? Why do you have Parrish's phone? Where is he?"
"Parrish? He's lying in the emergency room right now, half dead because of your shameless daughter!"
Seraphina raised her voice, unleashing a torrent of vicious accusations.
"Lady, maybe you should teach your daughter some morals! She managed to bag a sugar daddy, and the second she did, she dumped Parrish. She tormented him so badly it triggered his old injuries. He's in the ER right now, and the doctors have already issued a critical condition notice!"
"I am warning you—if Parrish dies on that operating table today, the two of you are going to rot in prison!"
Having screamed her lungs out, Seraphina's face twisted into a deeply satisfied smirk, and she immediately hung up the phone.
Swiftly, she blocked the number and wiped the call history clean.
Once her tracks were covered, she casually slipped the phone back into her pocket and strolled back to the ER doors, looking like an innocent, worried girlfriend.
...
The next day, at the Davenport Wellness Pavilion.
Bonnie had just changed into her scrubs when Caleb Jenkins sidled up to her, looking entirely too secretive.
He leaned halfway over the reception desk, dropping his voice to a hushed whisper.
