The man found her reaction incredibly amusing. He had never been looked at with such intense disgust by a woman before.
His rebellious streak flared. He suddenly reached out, hooking a finger under the fabric slipping off her shoulder, his tone wicked.
"Feisty, aren't you? But you are gorgeous—much better to look at than those plastic faces out there. Why don't you just stay with me? As long as you're obedient, I'll give you more money than you could ever spend."
Bonnie glared at him, the fury in her eyes practically burning a hole through him.
"Dream on! I'm married! If my husband finds out, he'll destroy you! If you don't want to rot in prison, back off right now!"
Hearing the word "husband," the man's eyes narrowed slightly, his interest piquing even further.
"You have a husband? Doesn't that just make this even more exciting?"
He let out a sinister chuckle, suddenly yanking down the fabric covering her shoulder and leaning in close.
Bonnie thrashed wildly, the metal cuffs tearing agonizingly against her skin.
"You psychopath! Let me go! I swear I'll make sure you rot in jail!"
But the man's movements abruptly halted, his gaze locked dead onto her chest.
Just above the edge of her bra, a small, dark red birthmark was visible. It was distinctly shaped, resembling a tiny seedling unfurling in the wind.
The color drained from the man's face instantly. The predatory amusement vanished, his pupils shrinking to pinpricks of absolute shock.
He reached out and seized her jaw, his grip so brutally tight he nearly cracked her bone.
His voice dropped into a terrifyingly low register. "Who are you? What is your name?"
Blindsided by his drastic shift in demeanor, Bonnie's eyes watered from the excruciating pain in her jaw, yet she screamed her defiance.
"Bonnie Hayes!"
"Let me go!"
The man's brow locked into a vicious scowl, a tempest of complex emotions flashing through his eyes.
Shock, rapidly followed by intense, terrifying suspicion.
But almost immediately, as if violently rejecting a ludicrous theory, his scowl deepened, and all those emotions violently morphed into pure frustration.
As if abruptly repulsed by her, he released her jaw and roughly yanked her slipping collar back up to cover her shoulder.
"Tsk. You're completely flat anyway. This is boring."
He stood up, clapping his hands in aggressive irritation, his tone dripping with utter disdain.
Bonnie stared up at him in confusion, entirely unable to process the psychotic mood swing.
But survival was her only priority. She frantically pleaded with him.
