Chapter 6
When Nash had DNA testing done with Julian, he discovered he was in the late stages of heart failure.
There was no possibility of recovery.
Learning he was dying actually made me happy, so I changed my plans.
Just as I was contemplating my next steps, disaster struck.
Someone had exposed my history as a mistress at Julian’s school.
Rumors spread that I was sleeping with multiple men.
When I went to pick Julian up from school, his best friend pushed him to the ground in front of me.
The boy kicked toward Julian’s groin, calling him a whore’s child.
Furious, I pushed the boy away and sheltered Julian in my arms, then immediately called the police.
When the child’s mother saw me push her son, she attacked like a wild animal.
She seemed to have a particular hatred for homewreckers, straddling me and trying to tear off my clothes.
She rallied the onlookers against me, their vicious words cutting through the air:
“Disgusting slut! Shameless whore! Destroying other people’s families!”
“All you know is how to spread your legs! Your son probably doesn’t even have a dick!”
“I’ll show everyone what a shameless face you have!”
She raised her phone to record me. Julian rushed forward and pulled her off me.
The woman stumbled, then raised her hand to strike Julian!
Nash appeared suddenly, his face dark with rage as he helped me up.
Barely containing his fury, he shoved the woman away.
Then, sheltering Julian and me, Nash announced to everyone that he was Julian’s biological father. He declared it was he who had been pursuing us like a desperate hound and anyone spreading rumors or causing trouble would face legal action.
After the police took us in, Julian collapsed into Nash’s arms, sobbing harder than I’d seen in all our years together. My heart broke listening to
him.
“Mom is the best mom in the world! Why do people hurt her? Just because Julian doesn’t have a daddy?”
“Mom used to tell Julian that daddy was a superhero, but Julian hates daddy! Why didn’t he come protect Mom?”
Nash held Julian tightly, his body trembling as he struggled to respond. His mouth opened and closed, but no words came out.
I don’t know what strings Nash pulled, but the altercation was classified as the other party causing a disturbance. They were ordered to pay $50,000 in damages for harassment and defamation.
To an average family, that amount represented their entire savings. So the woman brought her son to apologize personally.

Chapter 6
Only after they received Julian’s forgiveness did I agree to drop the case.
After all, her insults weren’t entirely wrong.
I was a man’s mistress-a legitimate target for public scorn.
Following this incident, Nash transferred Julian to the prestigious private school near the villa he’d shown me.
On Julian’s second day there, Riley sought me out.
The moment she saw me, she apologized with genuine remorse: “I’m so sorry about what happened at your son’s school. It wasn’t me, I swear.”
“But it might have been my parents’ doing. They were… probably trying to avenge me.”
“I’m truly sorry and willing to apologize on their behalf. If there’s anything I can do to make amends, please just name it.”
Her tone was as gentle as when she’d tried to help me in the bathroom that night.
Looking at Riley, I envied how she’d been raised to become such a genuinely good person.
I thought, if my mother hadn’t fallen ill back then, perhaps I could have become someone like her.
As our coffee grew cold, Riley spoke again: “Whatever happens between you and Nash, I sincerely wish you happiness.”
