Chapter 107 His Call

Demi took a breather before diving back into her work.

At five on the dot, Rhea’s phone rang.

It was Orion.

“Rhea, can I come see you?”

That voice of his-like she was his last lifeline-made something inside her purr with pride.

A smirk curved her lips. She made her voice sweet. “Sure you can. I’m off in about an hour. You okay waiting in my office till then?”

Technically, she could clock out anytime between five and six. She just liked the sound of that hour-long window.

“I don’t mind. I’m on my way.”

About 15 minutes later, Orion’s car pulled up at the Blackwell Group entrance.

The receptionist spotted him immediately and hurried over. “Orion, are you here for Mr. Blackwell? I can take you up.”

Orion shook his head. “I’m not here for Dad. I came to see Rhea.”

Her smile froze. Her breath caught. He wasn’t here for Nevin? He came for Rhea?

The second receptionist snapped her head over: Both of them stared like they’d seen a ghost.

One of them quickly swiped her badge and escorted Or on to the elevator.

Orion had no idea this was all part of Rhea’s little scheme. She hadn’t gone down to meet him on purpose. She wanted the whole office to know who he really came to see.

“I’m here, Rhea.”

“Orion, I missed you so bad. Did you think about me at all this week?”

Her office door stood wide open. A few nosy coworkers across the hall were already peeking in.

Rhea bent down and wrapped her arms around him like they were some kind of loving family.

Orion’s eyes flicked sideways. He hesitated, then said flatly, “Yeah. I missed you.” That was a lie.

A flash of smug satisfaction lit up her eyes. She acted like the staring didn’t bother her and went to shut the door.

“Rhea… Mom’s getting a divorce from Dad…”

She’d barely turned around when he dropped the bomb

Her eyes lit up with glee. Orion looked crushed, like the words had dragged the floor out from under him.

“What? No way.” Rhea kept her voice tight with concern even as her heart raced with joy. “Demi? She’s really

filing for divorce? Just like that? Orion’s only six. How could she even think about walking out on you…”

Halfway through, she acted like she suddenly realized her words might sting.

“Orion, maybe Demi just… Wait, is she actually going though with the divorce?”

Her eyes gleamed.

So Joe had tried to keep this from her? And now Orion had just spilled it himself.

That summons she saw earlier in the executive office-that had to be for the court date.

“Rhea, what do I do? I don’t want Mom and Dad to split up…”

Orion’s voice cracked. He looked at her like she was the only one who could fix it.

He was just a kid. His logic was full of holes. But in his mind, Rhea worked side by side with his dad. She might know something. She might have a plan.

Rhea wanted to laugh. What a sweet little idiot. She couldn’t wait for Demi and Nevin to be over.
